Apologies to the neighbors; it was concrete day for construction class, meaning Amaya had somehow found the time to rig the Crumbler up as a cement mixer and one thing the Crumbler always managed to do was was be loud.

"Morning, crew!" Amaya greeted the students, voice rising above the tumbling concrete mixing in the clanking machine. She grinned a little as she handed them each a copy of a lay-out plan, then gestured to the boards and rods of rebar and pipes set off to the side. "Big day today, it's time to lay the foundation, but before that, we've got to set the base. I'd like you all to work together on this, since it's just easier, and I'll be overseeing, of course, hopefully to catch anything before it goes too far off."

So she went over the basics: how to set up the forms with the wood boards and stakes, screwing them in, trimming them off, and using the plans she'd given them to lay the rebar and pipe grid. "Now, all the rebar we'll need, I've bent and cut already, but if anyone wants to take a few moments to use the machine to try a few themselves, I highly recommend it. Working with this rebar is where your gloves and your goggles are going to be particularly important; it's steel, it's strong, so it can cut you up if you're not careful, so please be careful, 'specially if you know you're a bit...erm," Beaker, "accident-prone."

Hopefully the others could manage themselves fairly well, because Amaya was pretty sure all her attention would be focused on wringing her hands around Beaker.

Once that was finished and Amaya checked the level on the forms, she nodded approvingly. "Not bad! Now the fun part, the concrete! Everyone grab a bag of gravel, dump it in, and level it with your shovels, then we're going to give it a good spray. And then in goes the concrete! I've rigged the Crumbler here," she gave it a fond little pat in one of the few spots without any moving parts to the moment, "to keep it good and mixed and to pour it for us, so you're job's just to smooth her out. Once we've got a good layer spread out, we'll smooth it further with boards, and get started on water-curing it, which takes a few days, which'll work fine to get us to our next step next week."

"And when you're done with that," she added, "I've got a little slab set aside over here that I'd really appreciate if you all took a second to leave a little something, a name or a mark or a signature, to commemorate you guys for all your hard work. But for now, let's get to work!"

"Yo, Rookies! Today, we're gonna talk about a topic that's near an' dear to my heart, yo. We're gonna talk about rules." See, that wasn't so bad, was it? "And breakin' 'em."

Ah.

"The thing about honin' your attitude is that you gotta figure out just when the rules you're lookin' at are friggin' ridiculous, yo. Do this? Don't do that? Okay, that's cool. But what harm is there in chewin' bubblegum in the classroom? An' why the hell should anyone care if you're sittin' around in the mall for a few hours doin' nothin', just so long as you ain't hurtin' nobody? An' why you gotta have short, naturally-colored hair to get a job out there? Who the hell are those tattoos an' piercings even hurtin', anyhow?"

Yeah, Reno was totally the type to loiter, with his long hair and pierced ears and tattooed face. But he usually did so while well-armed, and nobody generally bothered him as a result.

"Today, we're gonna talk about different rules you've seen around that just don't make no friggin' sense to you, and you're gonna tell me how you think doin' those things ain't hurtin' nobody, and just how you plan on goin' about breakin' it. An' if anybody sees a reason why the rule you wanna break is valid, they're gonna go right ahead and tell you why, yo. This class is about separatin' the rules from the guidelines, but if someone's gonna legitimately get hurt over this shit, I ain't havin' none of that, yo."

Reno was a real sweetheart when he wanted to be. So there.

There was the return of the sort of uncanny valley NPCakin in class today. It was an almost perfect recreation of the Wednesday class hosted by a certain teacher that was open to everyone on island.

"Because today's a heist!" Magnus shouted, arms raised in the air because he was super excited about this.

"Because for some unknown reason, a disturbing number of you are obsessed with that damn fish." Three guesses who wasn't excited and had spent far too much time arguing Magnus down from actually setting the class to real fish theft.

"Personally, I want to give it arms so it can hug people." Oh god, they were creating Ja'am. "Also, this is good practice in doing a heist. You never know when you'll need to do a heist."

On this island it was more likely to be arms to murder people, or fling glitter at them. "Though you probably shouldn't." Cara sounded really earnest there, honest. "Unless there's no other option." Or the alternative was pretending to be a princess, or you really wanted that fish, or it seemed like more fun. The justifications were endless.

Hell yeah they were!

"So, part one is the planning," Magnus said. "Which I guess can be done via flashback."

Helpful.

Though the Danger Shop did helpfully go desaturated and hazy around the edges, a table covered in maps appeared nearby. "Really?" Cara asked no one in particular. "Really?"

"Heist!" Magnus sort of whisper-shouted, hands raised in the air.

"I guess we're stealing a fish, then."
