"Since our time together is rapidly coming to close, I thought we'd try something a little different today," Ghanima said as the class met in the Danger Shop as handwavily ordered. "Today, we take Tzu a bit literally. Today we're playing with fire."

"Fire. The great cleanser, and the great equalizer. A weapon that can turn around and bite the hand that started it just as suddenly as the wind changes."

"Sun Tzu said: There are five ways of attacking with fire," Ghanima lectured, watching them inscrutably. "The first is to burn soldiers in their camp, the second is to burn stores. A third is to burn baggage trains; the fourth is to burn arsenals and magazines; and the fifth is to hurl dropping fire amongst the enemy. A rain of fire, if you will."

"In attacking with fire, one should be prepared to meet five possible developments: First, when fire breaks out inside to enemy's camp, respond at once with an attack from without. However, if there is an outbreak of fire, but the enemy's soldiers remain quiet, bide your time and do not attack."

"When the force of the flames has reached its height, follow it up with an attack, if that is practicable; if not, stay where you are."

"If it is possible to make an assault with fire from without, do not wait for it to break out within, but deliver your attack at a favorable moment. Last, but not least, when you start a fire, be to windward of it. Do not attack from the leeward unless you wish to feel your own flames."

"If we were starting a fire in a business setting, or on an emotional battlefield, perhaps we'd start with some lies, spread carefully where they can do the most damage. Insinuations whispered in corners where they can breed disaster."

"Starting a real fire requires just as much care, if not more. It is a living, breathing entity, and the burns are far more dangerous on a physical level."

Library, Monday

It was December. The island was full up on holiday cheer. Even the internet was chiming in, with its annual obsession with "All I Want for Christmas is You". And Tip was not having any of it.

She hated this time of year. For, she felt, extremely good reasons. She could build up a tolerance for shiny lights and insufferable pop songs, but warm grape juice in the shower was unacceptable. Tip had a lot of hair, okay? A lot of hair that had very narrowly missed getting rinsed in warm grape juice. Bad enough her hand was all sticky and smelling like spiced grapes. If it had been her hair, she might have had to murder someone.

So it was an extremely grumpy Tip who was working the Library today, her hair pulled up in a giant poof on her head, looking up how to tie a turban so she had more options for the days when Fandom decided she wasn't going to be able to wash her hair. Since it had apparently been the one to decide she should have all this hair again in the first place. . . .

“Our time in this class is winding down and I’m sure you’re all broken up about it,” Daria greeted the class. “Last week you got to write what you know, and this week we’re going to revisit your past stuff, and I’m going to give you a choice on how you want to do it. You’re going to find a story you write earlier this semester, and I want you to either write a second draft of it- which is harder than it sounds- or write a sequel to it. I don’t care which story you pick, or what you do with it, except that you should try to further the story, or improve on it. Have fun with that.”

"Well, given how everything here smells like grape juice," Anakin began, "I'm assuming the taps are doing something disgusting again."

"It's best not to think about it," Obi-Wan said dryly. "Today, we wish to posit you with a scenario of sorts."

"With very little notice, you are required to go into hiding," Anakin said. "In this scenario, it's because of a post-apocalyptic event, scorched-earth, no food sort of thing."

Happy holidays, kids!

"We want to know who you would bring with you into your bunker--you only have space for five other people."

"It could be friends or family. It could be someone you've never met. Imagine many people wish to enter - children and the elderly, craftsmen and journalists... who do you take?" Obi-Wan asked.

"And the ethical conundrum," Anakin added. "How do you tell the rest of them no? What if they don't want to take no as an answer?"
