jedigrammarians: (Aphra: that's the plan)

The Danger Shop looked a lot blanker than usual today.

"We're doing something a bit different today," Aphra told them cheerfully. "Often the best loot whether in terms of cultural or monetary value is in, with, or by a monument, but sometimes it can be hard to recognise them after a few years, so you're going to learn valuable monument recognition skills by building your own." Yes, that was totally how that worked. Did any of you have a doctorate?

"Now as to subjects, usually they're of power, heroic figures, the kind of people who'd save an island from strange and unusual weather by flying frozen sharks into hurricanes at great risk to themselves."

Aphra. You were going to construct giant statues of Aphra.

Class was in the Danger Shop again today and the class walked into a waterscape. No, actually, several waterscapes. To one side was a winding river, broad and lazy. To another was a marsh, the water dark with moss and mud. A brackish stretch of beach ran along the far wall, and in the center was a clear pool, where brightly colored fish swam and smooth pebbled looked deceptively close to the surface. The one thing that all of these waterscapes had in common?

"Cattails!" Karla announced when everyone had arrived. "Cattails may be one of the single most useful plants on this earth. They grow near pretty much any body of water and can be harvested in all four seasons to provide food and other potentially life-saving items. Someone skilled in foraging can use cattails for at least eight food products, three medicinals, and twelve other helpful functions."

In fact, there were too many useful functions to explain in the time they had, so Karla was giving Lucille handouts to pass around so the students could still learn about them in their own time. Because cattails were incredibly cool and she'd fight you.

"So, we've got all four seasons represented here," she said, gesturing to the four different waterscapes. "We've got the river in winter, the beach in spring, the pond in summer, and the marsh in autumn." When the cattails were the tallest and, therefore, didn't require digging around in murky water, you were all welcome. "Do a circuit of the room and learn about the cattails in each season and what you can do with them!"

Guess who got their free morning back today. Guess. C'mon, don't be rude about it.

It was you guys!

Because there was just a note on the board with:

Busy stalking Josh Brolin. Go meditate or some shit. I taught enough yesterday.

Okay, that last part was a complete lie because he never taught anything. Ever. It was his charm.

Oh, the library. Peridot was kind of pleased to be back in here, even though it hadn't been so long since the weekend, to pick up the last of the research materials that were still lying around and to get back to some semblance of normalcy in her day-to-day.

She maybe got a little sidetracked when she picked up a few books about sharks, mind. Everything was still going to get put away, of course, but there was something she didn't know much about, right there, and it seemed important to her that she pause to read up on it.

The library was open, and the Gem was in. And also kind of thinking it would be cool to have skin made up of millions of tiny teeth.

Isabelle clasped her hands together once everyone had filed in. They were in the Danger Shop, although it was set up to look more like a home ec classroom. There were sinks and stovetops – and a rack with feather boas on it. There were twice the number of students of them, and half of them were clean, half of them dirty.

"Today, we'll continue on from last week," Isabelle began. "Sometimes, you have to fight in a feather boa." If you were Isabelle, anyway. YMMV, otherwise. "And sometimes, that may mean you might get all sorts of disgusting gunk on it. Slime, ichor, whatever. And that's when you need to learn how to clean the damn thing, because you can't let a good accessory go to waste just because a monster decided to spill its guts on it."

She lived an interesting life.

"So, we'll do this in two parts. First, you'll each pick a dirty feather boa and wash it. Once you hang that one up to dry, you can grab a clean, dry one, and practice re-fluffing its feathers with steam. I'll talk you through it more throughly as we get started, but now, grab your boas."

Not dirty.
