"So," Sparkle said, smiling wryly. "Last week of show and tell, and this week I'm leaving it up to you guys again. Not because I'm gonna, like, grade you on what you figure is worth sharing with the class or anything. This workshop is purely participation points. But because I've been giving you guys topics all summer and figure you might want to come up with your own, now."

And with that, he held up a little two-gallon fish tank with a double-tailed betta inside and grinned.

"This is Milady," he shared. "I got Milady last October when I was in an 'in America for Canadian Thanksgiving' funk, and I left her at Demon Marcus for a while. Alluka's the one who named her; Milady is a 100% certified AMAB trans-lady-fish, mostly because I didn't have the heart to correct her about that, and it isn't like Milady cares all that much either way. She's a fish." He grinned faintly. "A few months back, Milady came back home with me because I kind of needed some company at the time, and like a moron I forgot to leave a note explaining why she disappeared. So when Alluka decided that Milady had gone on grand adventures, Milady started sending postcards."

Sparkle laid out some copies of half-decently photoshopped pictures of the fish against such backdrops as the Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge, and the moon.

"I'm kind of jealous of her adventures, honestly. Milady is one well-travelled fish."

Milady was the best fish.

"Okay, your turn!"

Today did not have the usual figure waiting for the class to arrive. Well. Deadpool had put in some effort with a blonde wig borrowed from Vanessa.

But that was where it ended.

"So I basically just wandered in here in the hopes of getting some sweet, sweet laser sword action, but now I apparently have to teach or some crap." He held up a remote to make the danger shop look like the perfect replica of a strip mall Chuck-E-Cheese. Yep, even down to that unique smell. "And I honestly could not give less of a fuck about teaching an actual lesson, so... skeeball time."

That's right, kids.

"Balls in holes. Oh, and the terrifying animatronic rats sing. Enjoy that. You don't get to leave until the class period ends either. I'm watching you."

Not really. It was the last day to catch his beloved flame pony in Pokemon Go.

"Welcome back once again." Anne offered the gathered students a smile. "And for the last time in this particular class. I want you all to know that I've very much enjoyed the opportunity to teach you all." Her smile widened slightly. "I feel that I've probably learned as much listening in on your conversations, and engaging with you, as you're likely to have learned from me. And I've been grateful for the opportunity."

"I know that we've only just barely had time to start getting to know each other, but I wanted to make our final period together memorable."

"Violence." Anne spoke the single word, turning to write it on the board. "We've discussed and practiced both identifying and utilizing non-violent techniques for resolving conflicts. And while I know that some people will disagree with me, it has been my experience that there are some situations that can't be resolved without violence unless you are willing to allow others to have their way." Her expression looked a bit wistful. "And sometimes you can't bring yourself to do that, either."

"So today, we're going to discuss our limits. We've talked about a number of specific hypotheticals already this summer, so maybe you'd like to dig into one of those in a bit more depth, or maybe you want to talk about something that hasn't come up yet. So: where is your limit? What are the things that you simply can't imagine solving without violence?"

Anne paused, licking her lips and looking slightly uncomfortable. She took a deep breath, then blew it out.

"For my part, it is difficult to imagine not responding violently to someone who has knowingly instigated the death of people I love. Even if they later feel remorse, I would still have trouble forgiving them." She smiled sadly. "I suppose that may make me a bit vindictive, but," she shrugged.

Of course, things in real life got a lot more complicated, but Anne didn't feel the need to air past traumas in front of her students.

"What about you?" she asked, looking around. "Are there limits to your ability to approach things without violence? Where are they?"
