doubleohblonde: (Bond is displaying the goods)

Today when his class arrived at the Danger Shop, they would have found a landscape full f gently rolling hills, giant inflatable plastic balls, and a faintly exasperated looking Bond.

"Technically it's not driving," he said, after greeting them. "But consider it a test of skill and spatial awareness."

At least it couldn't be worse than Isabela's driving last fortnight?

"Hey, class. I hope you like kids, because today we're doing another stint of volunteer work," Sparkle announced. He had handwavily directed everyone to meet on the causeway, so the whole 'field trip' aspect was probably kind of obvious, otherwise. "This week, we're going to a women's shelter to basically babysit kids while their moms are taking, like, life skills management courses or whatever."

Look, there was a list of things that women's shelters did. Sparkle was here to get people to put together puzzles with missing pieces with toddlers, this week. Lectures were for another time.

"We'll basically be put to work doing whatever the supervisor needs us to do. One of you might get put on arts and crafts duty, one of you might have to help some kid with their homework. There's a little outdoor area with, like, some grass and a sandbox if that's your thing. All depends on what the kids there need, you know? Keep in mind going in that the kids are going to be varying levels of 'doing okay,' too. It's a women's shelter, which means they might just be there because Mom couldn't pay rent, or they might have seen some really ugly stuff at home. Either way, be gentle. Don't pry about it. If a kid volunteers to talk about it, because there's no controlling what comes out of a child's mouth when they get a mind to share, then roll with it. If something they say gets a bit too real... I'll be right there. Grab me, we'll tap out, no harm, no foul."

He tilted his head at the class.

"Any questions?"
