Once again, the class was meeting in the Danger Shop, because Nathan was just that kind of teacher, and there was nothing like actually sitting in the middle of what was generally considered the front lines to really hammer in just what it was that the students were supposed to be learning today.

... About food.

Library, Monday

The library was very bright, today. Outside on a hot summer day in the desert bright. Tip was well acquainted with that sort of brightness, having lived in Arizona over the summer when she was eleven.

Encountering indoors was totally new.

She didn't know if the brightness -- which didn't seem to be coming from anything in particular other than "up" -- was actual sunlight or not, but after the gloomy weather they'd been having the last several days, she was going to stretch out behind the library desk and soak it in, anyway.

It was a tired-looking Atton who dragged his ass into the Danger Shop five minutes late. There was no simulation running.

"I have had a long weekend," he said, "And I don't want to talk about it."

He dumped a bag onto the desk. "Water balloons," he said. "I'm not giving you kids grenades to practice with, so go forth and pretend these are. Or something."

He just hadn't had time to think of a class.

"There's a tap in the corner," he said, helpfully pointing to the only part of the Danger Shop that... did appear to be running some kind of program. "Go, go, go."
