Okay, so Peridot hadn't come in to open the library today so much as she had basically been here the whole time, lurking in the stacks like a little green troll on a mission. Presumably a mission for clipboards. The first one she'd found and worked out so well, after all, in that it was even remotely useful.

So, the library, which was seeing far more activity these past few days than it had likely seen in ages, was still open, by virtue of the little green Gem who had noticed that the humans were running low on heated leaf water, and was now trying to figure out how to heat more water without benefit of electricity

It was fortunate that she was trying to rig some sort of internal combustion system into the coffee perk that ran on dust, instead of the somewhat more obvious fuel choice filling the place. Give her an hour or two, and there would be coffee. Dust-powered coffee.
