The tables in the Student Council room were filled with pizza and salads and leftover Easter candy (yes, still, thank goodness candy didn't go bad) as Zoe waited for everyone to come in.

"So, we're coming up on Prom being next week," she said. "It's a big dance just like Homecoming, which means that like Homecoming we need to come up with an idea for the dance's theme. It doesn't have to involve glitter, but the topic just ends up being that way most of the time." Zoe smiled at them and shrugged. "I'm sure someone has a great idea. If there's anything else you think we need to discuss today, let me know."

Cara had her class meeting outside. In the rain. Because she could.

"We've talking about fighting in a group, but you can't always luck out and happen to be fighting with people you know will have your back no matter what, sometimes you'll be fighting with people you aren't particularly happy at the idea of being hurt or worse, so you have to find ways to motivate them." Luckily for the class's peace of mind, Cara wasn't going to go into details here. "So today you're going to practice giving motivational speeches to convince your classmates to go fight some hopeless fight, which honestly should be pretty easy, given this place."

She grinned, always a good sign. "To properly motivate you, if someone gives a speech I think would actually work, you can all leave early."

"Today we're going to focus on one of my favorite parts of modern American history," Steve said. "The space race. We talked a bit about Sputnik last week, but let's get into a little more detail, okay?"

Steve led them through the Explorer program, then the Russian's Luna program, the formation of NASA, the Mercury launches, and the first man in Space, Georgian Yuri Gagarin on Vostok 1. He talked about Alan Sheppard and John Glenn, and then the Apollo program.

Finally he passed out astronaut ice cream that he'd picked up on a trip to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and started a movie. "Okay, this is a movie about the Apollo 13 launch," he said, "just to reiterate how extremely risky and dangerous this stuff was."

Today all Lucille wanted to do was to finish the novel she was reading, but she knew by now that the library was unpredictable. At first it seemed quiet but then, as she sat behind the desk absorbed in one of the final chapters, she heard a sobbing. She waited for a while, but it wouldn't stop. Eventually she went looking, and found that a couple of books lay on the floor next to the shelf with children's books. They were all crying, and Lucille stood watching them for a while.

"There is no point in crying," she told them, tilting her head. "No one will come to help you. If you are lucky someone will find you on the floor and decide to read you, but most of you will be forgotten. Isn't that sad?"

She turned around and left the miserable books on the floor, returning to the exciting last chapter of ner novel.
