Like last week, the class was in the Danger Shop, unlike last week, Cara was there as well. They stood in a bucolic valley, in the middle of a wide, grassy area that resembled nothing so much as a school oval, an analogy that was sadly lost on her.

"By all accounts Cassandra did an adequate job covering last week." Which was all she was going to say about it. They didn't want to know the details. "This week is all about teamwork, as you're going to work together to take down the same enemy."

Right on cue, a loud rumbling an the flapping of giant wings could be heard. "Have fun."

Today the students were back in the Danger Room, on a military obstacle course.

Steve, dressed in military khakis and an SSR shirt at least two sizes smaller than he should be in, squinted at them into the glare of the fake sun. "Welcome to boot camp, recruits," he said. "At the time of the Pearl Harbor bombing, there were only 450,000 members in the Army, Navy and Marines. By the end of the war, there were more than 12 million. How did we turn regular Joes and Janes into military ready combat troops?" He waved his hands at the organized chaos around them. "This. We'll skip the part where they gave you terrible haircuts and go straight to the exercise."

And sooo much marching.

After vigorous calisthenics, the students followed Steve through five mile hike up a huge hill (so fun, right?) in heavy boots, a full backpack and an unloaded M1 rifle. He then pointed them toward the obstacle course: wooden fences to climb over, ropes to climb up, barbed wire to wriggle through. "Welcome to the Army, kids," he said dryly. "Get to it."

"Okay, so, you've familiarized yourselves with your planes, and now you've gotta fly them," Brian said. "I hope you all read your handwavey because curiously enough information on how to fly a plane is not very readily available on the internet for some reason hi NSA homework and are ready. And remember, this is a simulation, so if you crash you're just going to find yourself back in your cockpit ready to lift off again. The real world is not so forgiving.

"No race this week, so no pressure, just start your plane, go through the pre-flight check, lift off, follow your course, and land again." He fully expected it to take some of you a few tries.

The library was quiet today, apart from some books sneaking around behind the shelves. Lucille decided it was best to ignore them, and spent her time reading poetry instead. Perhaps she would find something new to recommend Cassandra.

[Open library, but SP from me should anyone stop by.]
