"Right! Well then." Bob clapped his hands, looking cheerfully evil. The Danger Shop was set up like a night-time street straight out of a mystery film: bright street lights and neon, with intervening pools of darkness. Empty cars parked along the streets, stores boarded up for the evening. Occasional pedestrians and cars passed by.

"Nothing like getting right back into the swing of things, is there? Let's start with a bit of practical...well, practice."

A man hurried down the street toward them, looking back over his shoulder occasionally, his whole attitude screaming fear and paranoia.

Then, about a block away, the street erupted )

"I hope everyone had a chance to study the diagrams I handwavily gave you before your break, because we're going to start working with them today," Brian announced. "No, you're not going to fly a plane today, even in simulation, but I want you to get into the cockpit and start familiarizing yourselves with the instruments. They've been programmed to not take off yet, but you can start them and adjust the wheel flaps and things. Have fun." They were Cessnas. He wasn't starting you on passenger jets, here.

"We've now hit World War II," Steve said, "and since this is kinda my area of expertise, we're going to devote a couple of classes to it. Today we're going to talk about propaganda and the rise of authoritarian regimes in Europe."

Guess who'd spent his insomniac nights reading about Super Tuesday election results, kids.

"Some of these images and ideas are pretty disturbing," Steve warned as he passed out various pieces of Nazi, American, British, and Japanese propaganda.

"My question to you is, why did this work? What does it tap into for people that makes images like this so effective? What can we learn about the different countries based on what their propaganda was aimed at stirring in their populations?"

After the discussion, he started up a DVD. "And for something a little lighter," he said, looking slightly rueful, "a selection of propaganda films I was in."

Enjoy your teacher in black and white and tights!

This Friday the books were back to their usual antics, and Lucille found that less unnerving than the silence last week. She did some reshelving while the poetry books changed places behind her back. Well, not entirely behind her back; she noticed them from the corner of her eye.

Once finished she took a seat behind the desk and skimmed through a few books on music history of the past 150 years.
