Class met outdoors, today, at a picnic table set up on the school grounds, covered by an enormous rainbow colored umbrella. Pinkie sat at the head of the table, wearing a pinstriped black vest and a transparent green visor. She had a large deck of cards in front of her, that she was shuffling and playing with in a manner that casually defied the traditional laws of physics.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome!" she called, as the students arrived. "Today we're going to explore the funtastic world of card games!" She flung her hooves in the air, taking the deck of cards with her. They slipped from her hoof, showing that the whole deck was actually strung together on strips of paper, accounting for at least some of their mysterious ways. "Oopsie," she said, and tossed the deck over her shoulder before picking up a new deck. This one clearly required more concentration to shuffle. You could tell by the way her tongue stuck out of her mouth on the side when she did it.

"I have not one, not two, but five super amazing games for you all to choose from, today! I've played almost all of them myself and I promise they're just great! But enough from me. Go on and try 'em out!"

That got another hoof-fling. Resulting in another deck of cards going in the air.

"Er," Pinkie said. "Make that six games. Who's in for 52 card pick up?"

"Welcome to Chicago!" Josh said, gesturing around, "where, as far as I know, it's done snowing for the year. But don't quote me on that. Chicago is the third most populous city in America after New York and LA and is also the only city, despite snowing nine months a year and having the wind blow all the time, in the Midwest worth visiting."

Josh.

"Seriously," he continued, "because screw Indiana especially." More than a couple passing people gave him the stink-eye for that. "There was this campaign stop and half of their counties were in different timezones and who runs a civilization like that and oh, yeah, Chicago. The city is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation, and if you're not on a direct flight from one side of the country to the other, the chances are high that you'll be cooling your heels in O'Hare International Airport, home of exactly five power outlets for your laptop."

Josh.

"The food culture of Chicago is pretty unique," he said. "They serve dish-deep pizza, which as someone who grew up outside of New York I am required to scoff at and call casserole, and hot dogs with pickles on them instead of mustard and sauerkraut as God intended--" Josh, "--so you guys can try some of that after we're finished touring some of the great architecture of the city. Get out your cameras, folks, this'll be as much fun as you're legally allowed to have in flyover country."

"I knew I wanted today's class to be on waves," Herc began, "but frankly, I suspect you don't want to learn about the science behind waves right now any more than I want to teach it. Lot of math, it is. And this island isn't exactly well situated for surfing. You can, however, bodyboard in the surf, so I encourage you to grab a board and give it a go. If you don't feel like it, you're welcome to stick around here, there's still sandcastle gear." He handwavily explained how one went about bodyboarding before encouraging them to, "Have fun!"
