Bond had emailed his students to meet him in the preserve, where he directed them to racks of safety googles and masks, well as piles of overalls in blue and yellow.

"Good afternoon," he said. "In light of this weekend, we'll be having a less serious class this week for two reasons, one being that it's a good idea to avoid using weapons while in emotional distress whenever possible, and two, I often find that shooting things makes me feel better." And of Bond's three preferred coping mechanisms, it was the one least likely to get him in trouble for sharing with students.

"So, paintball, I'll give you five minutes to get ready, another five to get into the preserve and spread out a bit and then you can spend the rest of class shooting each other."

It had been a weird weekend. Unexpected fatherhood wasn't on McCoy's schedule for Valentine's Day weekend--he had to displace all his pre-planned moping and mourning.

So class was easy this week. The room was set up with comfy chairs, and after some (a lot) of fussing, McCoy got the damned projector working.

"Simple day today--no naps, but no big activity. We're gonna watch something."

He played some clips from Dual Survival about finding water and food, with a few miscellaneous moddable tips thrown in.

[If you do go searching through more clips from that show or feel compelled to click through recommended links, be warned that some of it is incredibly disgusting. Open wounds and dead carcasses disgusting. Take care of yourselves!]

Pinkie was bouncing cheerfully as usual at the front of the classroom, occasionally clapping her oven-mitted front hooves. "Hiyahiyahiya!" she greeted. "Welcome back! I hope you all had fun this weekend with your little fillies and colts! Or whatever baby humans are called!"

"Children," Derek said helpfully.

The classroom today had the pleasant yeasty scent of fresh bread in the air, possibly giving away this week's project for the class.

Possibly.

"I didn't have any show up this time," Pinkie said sadly. "But that just means they're probably having fun in their own universes instead! Today, we're going to change things up a little bit. Not everything you bake has to be a sweet treat! Sometimes it's nice to have it be waaaarm and gooey."

Oh dear, now she was salivating.

There was something so very wrong about that. That would never be addressed, thank you. "We're doing Parker House rolls," Derek said, manfully not rolling his eyes. Dough is already made because you're not sticking around for hours as it rises."

Right? So help him, if you hooligans were baking outside of class…

"But there's recipes for it if you want to try to make it again at home!" Pinkie cheered. Because if you weren't baking outside of class, so help her….

They were so well organized, these two.

"Find a partner and try rolling out dough balls." Derek just steadfastly ignored how that could be taken the wrong way.
