Today as each student entered an apparently empty Danger Shop, Oz handed them a blindfold or a pair of mittens without thumbs.

"So today we've got a problem that can only be solved by teamwork," Oz said, not at all ominously. "So I need you to find a partner, one person should have a blindfold the other mittens, then put whichever item I handed you on."

Once they'd done so, he pressed a button, and a large, complicated device appeared in the middle of the room. It was ticking. "So this is a bomb. If it is not deactivated by the end of class, it will explode. If it is not deactivated correctly, it will explode. It needs to be deactivated in stages, with components related to each stage placed on opposite sides of the bomb, if someone starts working on a stage and the opposite side isn't started within within twenty seconds, it will explode."

"There are two toolkits by the bomb, I'm sure you can figure out the rest."

This week, Batman's class was meeting on the beach. This did not mean it was going to be a horrifying day. In fact, they were going to play a game!

"Before digital media rendered CDs almost obsolete, bored people would play a game called Desert Island Discs," Batman said with utter disdain. Why do that instead of hunting down crime? Sure, he understood it philosophically, but it wasn't a choice he would ever make. "Assuming you'll be stuck on a remote desert island with little hope of rescue, you somehow get to pick three CDs to make it onto the island with you. The thought is that you'll somehow have a limitless power source for a working CD player and you'll be able to listen to those three discs for the length of your time on the island."

"You don't get a CD player or a power source. That's ludicrous," Batman said before pulling a short bindle of blank CDs from his belt. "All you do get are these three CDs and the piles of driftwood you'll see further down the beach. You'll note that I'm actually being generous by making sure it was all dry."

Yep. That's generous.

"Because it's on you to figure out how to accomplish three goals with nothing but those CDs and whatever natural things you find here. First, you have to construct a shelter. Second, you have to build a fire. Third, you have to dig a waste pit." You knew what he meant. And no, he shouldn't have to say this next part, but he wanted to make it clear that there was an end point here. "Do NOT use the waste pit. Work alone or in groups and use your CDs wisely."

"If you need help doing any of those things, I'll show each person or group how to do one of them. If you have powers, you can use them, but you must use them in conjunction with the CDs."

"And if any of you received detention from me last week, see me after class. We have things to discuss."

Today's class was set up the same as last week's with everything the students might need to practice shooting, but there was also a table set up with some paper and markers.

"Practicing anything over and over the same way can get kind of boring," Clint said, "so when it comes to shooting, you've got to find ways to change things up. One way is to give yourself something specific to shoot at, like a picture of someone or something you don't like." He grinned and motioned to the table. "Draw yourself a special target, tack it up to the regular target, and see if that helps you improve."

The classroom had its usual comfortable configuration with a table of sweets and beverages off to one side, and Jack at the front of the room. If he looked cheerful, it was mainly because he did not have to sleep in a bouncy castle.

"Today, we're back to the games," he said. "Specifically, word games, or games that use language as a toy. Today's game is called The Minister's Cat. I describe the cat with an adjective starting with A, and then we move around the circle to talk about the creature with words starting with B, C, D, and so forth. So, for example, if I said the minister's cat was an amazing cat, the next person might say it's a beautiful cat, and the third that it's a creative cat. If you take too long to think of an adjective, or if you repeat one we've used before, you're out. So to start, the minister's cat is an adorable cat."

And then he gestured to the person on his left, clearly waiting for them to pick it up.
