"Welcome to your final exam, kids," Josh said with an easy smile as he sat behind his desk and drank his coffee. "Ten minutes each of an instructional speech to newcomers about life in Fandom."

He waved at the video camera. "These are being recorded and I'll be sending the best of them onto Principal Winchester, so...no pressure. It's been great teaching all of you. For those of you heading to college and real life next year, best of luck. Feel free to call me if you need a letter of recommendation or anything."

He pointed at the first student. "Get us started."

"All right, this is it."

The Danger Shop had been set up as a wide, circular battle arena. The borders were made of steel and reached way up, with glass panes set in it at roughly above waist-height for your average person. Danger Shop or not, Kaidan didn't actually want anyone getting hit by... lasers... or whatever else these kids had come up with.

"All your 'bots enter, only one leaves," Kaidan announced. "It's battlebot demolition derby time! Don't wreck the Danger Shop. Wreck each other's 'bots. If yours makes it past the starting line, you've already got a passing grade, but... extra credit goes to the top three remaining."

Had to keep this fun, right?

This was it, one last time. There was the usual simulated field with a dark evening sky above, and a simulated crowd in the stands, waiting for the game, much like the simulated opposing team as well as the extra sim players for theirs were doing somewhere hidden away. And Jackson standing in the middle of it all, wearing all of his gear, and in full captain mode.

"I don't have much to say here," he said. "Opposing team's been adjusted to something you should be able to handle if you take this seriously. Which you should, because they may be simulated, but losing against them is still real. Don't lose."

He was the best at being supportive, ever.

"As for this being our last session, well, spring could've gone worse." Maybe. "And maybe I'll see some of you again in the fall. But for now, let's play."
