"Right, well, last week completely blew," Josh began without preface, drinking from his precious, precious mug of coffee. "And next week is your final exam. For that I would like you to prepare a ten minute informational speech for newcomers to the island. Tell them all the things you wish someone had told you, and present it in a way where the person hearing you won't immediately dismiss you as being completely insane."

He leaned back against his desk. "But for today, we're going to do some improv speaking. Stand up, I'll give you a topic and you just get to go without any preparation time. It'll be fun!"

Or a disaster. One of those.

Industrial Arts, Tuesday

"Morning, class," Kaidan greeted, standing in front of the desk. He looked perfectly normal - posture straight, face relaxed - with no hint of anything relating to the past week. "Your finals are next week, which means it's time to check over your battle bots and make sure they're up to snuff."

He paced across the room. "Remember, next week, we're going all Battle Royale on this," he said. "All 'bots enter, only one comes out alive. The person who wins gets bragging rights - and extra credit. To pass, you have to make a 'bot that can actually move around and do battle. Even if it gets knocked out first."

He stopped at the front of the class. "If you still need time to recuperate after last week," he said, more carefully, "Let me know and you'll be dismissed. Otherwise? It's time to pull out all the stops. Fix up your bot."
