Rather than pages upon pages of notes, today Oz was passing stacks of magazines around the class.

"Today, children, we're going to be talking about advertisement and the consumer culture," he began. Sadly, Oz's speech can't be ad-blocked )

Of all the things Zoe had missed about Fandom, the students were what she'd missed the most. So, she might have been looking especially happy as the members of the Student Council came in and got settled. There were a variety of pizzas, sodas, and cookies on the table for their lunch, and Zoe didn't waste any time once they'd all gotten there.

"Good afternoon. For those of you I haven't had the pleasure of meeting before, I'm Zoe Winchester, the school's new-old principal," she said with a smile. "I'm glad to see some of you came back for more fun after last year. As far as the school's event schedule goes, there's nothing important immediately on the horizon, so I suppose we can discuss what things you all might like to do in the future, if anyone has suggestions."

When the students arrived today, they'd find the Danger Shop set up with a bunch of targets, training dummies, and a pile of moddable weapons.

"It seems like a lot of folks at this school, and in town, come from kind of dangerous places," Clint said. "Honing a skill requires time, which requires staying alive, and that isn't always a luxury. Today, I want to see how well you guys can handle weapons to defend yourselves, and don't worry if the answer is 'not all that well' because everyone's got to start somewhere. If you've already had some training in this area, and you want to spar with each other, go right ahead because you won't really hurt anyone. Supposedly." It wasn't that Clint didn't have faith in technology, but that part of the Danger Shop's settings still had him a little worried.

"This week," Jono announced, stepping into the classroom with a coffee in hand and something like a smile on his face, "we're going to talk about one of my favourite things to observe not only in a crisis situation, but any day of the week. This week, we're going to talk about a little thing called common sense."

He was, after all, of the opinion that most of the residents of the island were decidedly lacking in it. Particularly when a failure to observe it could wind up with somebody getting hurt.

"Common sense is what smart people use to not get their bloody arses killed day by day. It's that little voice that cautions you to wait the extra two seconds for the bus to pass, instead of running out in front of it to see if it can stop on a dime. The same voice might tell you not to throw rocks at a angry bear, or to drink water when you're thirsty, because dehydration isn't particularly good for you."

"In more Fandom-specific scenarios, common sense might be to, say, stay indoors when it's raining mousetraps, or to not wander off alone when people have started to vanish in the streets. It won't always save you - I was once plucked right out of my bloody bed by a tear in reality and thrown in a nightmare town called Silent Hill, for example - but it'll give you at least a bit of an advantage in the event of the island trying to kill us all. Again."

The 'again' was important.

"This week, we're going to pair you off and have you go over a list of hypothetical situations that you could all get out of in one piece if you just exercise that 'common sense' thing I've been discussing." He really liked the sound of that phrase, yes. "Pick a few items from the list, and discuss between yourselves what the smart thing to do would be. You can do it, students. I have faith in you all."

It was a strained sort of faith. He'd been living on the island for a while, after all. But it was there.

"Good morning," Steve said. "Today we're going to watch a documentary about conception, which takes a rather...novel approach to the whole thing." Steve had certainly never thought about what it might be like to be a sperm before. "As always, I ask that everyone keep an open mind and be respectful as we watch The Great Sperm Race."

((The video, being a documentary about sperm narrated by Richard Armitage, may be considered NSFW. It may also be considered hilarious.))

Loki was more than a bit excited to start this club up. Because it would grant him power over people. As Student Council did very little to allow him to boss people around other than for dances.

So...

"Greetings, those who wish to become cheerleaders! I am Loki and this is Jessica. We will be judging you today." Judging you so much.

"We may not know the first thing about cheerleading, but it's not like that kept us from restarting the squad in the first place," Jessica said, doing her best to set the bar low. "We also only have one sports team, and I'm not even sure who they play against. But again, not stopping us. Such is the power of cheerleading." She sounded very convinced.

They were a former genocidal villain and the cross-gender clone of Spider-Man. They could do anything. "It is lacrosse. There are sticks," Loki informed her helpfully. "I have learned from Wikipedia, that this involves cheering and gymnastics. So, we ask that you give us an example of both things."

Try it in iambic pentameter. He dared you.

"If you want to use pom-poms for either portion, we found the squad's old equipment and dusted it off, so you don't have to worry about making yourself sneeze in the middle of spelling something," Jessica said. "Unless you're allergic to spelling, in which case what are you even doing in a school?"

"...right." Loki was judging your quips in preparation of the potential cheerleaders, Jessica. "So, we hope to see your best. And if you did not sign up at the club fair, we are still taking all those who are interested."
