"You stay there in that corner and don't hug me," Anakin was saying, shaking his finger at a small monkey as the students arrived.

He looked a little embarrassed to see them. "It seems Fandom has struck again," he said a little dryly. "The...affection...of these monkeys dovetails nicely into our discussion today of love, an emotion so beloved by portions of this planet that there is a holiday devoted to it. Now the chalky candies, the dance, the cards and the...monkeys--" which were new, but Force forbid Anakin not pretend he knew exactly what he was talking about, "--combine to push many people into thinking that this holiday is devoted exclusively to romantic love, but there are many other kinds to discuss: familiar love, love of a particular place or thing, love of an ideal..."

The monkey began to creep towards Anakin's leg and was stopped with a glare. "Now for Jedi in my day, love was forbidden: attachment was considered very dangerous for a group of beings with the kinds of powers that we wield. This has changed for the generations of Jedi who have followed me, many of whom are even joined to another Jedi. My questions for you are thus: why do you think the Order in my time wanted to forbid attachment, and what definition of love are you most familiar with." He smiled. "And I know teenagers worry about this sort of thing, but if you haven't been in love just yet, I assure you that there is nothing wrong with you."

Because clearly hearing that from Anakin Skywalker will ease their minds or something. "Let's begin."

Cassidy was sitting at the desk and there were several books about Valentine's Day spread around her. Of course, completely out of place was the books on Tai Chi and the book on sword fighting.

Only to Cassidy would these three things seem to be related.

Every so often one of the books on Valentine's Day would move a little and she would reach out and hold it down without looking up from her reading.

So far? This coming holiday made very little sense to her. Or maybe it was the way the island was celebrating that had her all confused.

"Good afternoon, class," Jane greeted the students with a smile. "I hope your weeks are going well, and I know there's an exciting weekend ahead of us, so I hope you might be able to pull in at least enough attention for class today. On the bright side, with all this romance that seems to be clogging the air today, we're at least being topical, because today we're discussing mating habits.

Love Monkeys. )

"So let's have a discussion, and now we are really getting into primatologist territory, using primate activity to consider our own habits and tendencies and better understanding what drives homo sapien. What are your own personal beliefs on human mating? How does it compare to some of the mating habits of our primate friends? What, culturally or biologically, do you think might drive humans to consider things like romance and love so heavily? Do you think certain primates might also take these things into consideration, or is it mostly the need to procreate their drives their mating systems? Who would like to start?"

"Hi, everyone!" Ariel, bouncing and decked in pink for sure, smiled brightly at everyone once they were the for Glee Club. Clearly, she was excited for today's activity. "Happy Valentine's Day early! If you haven't had the chance yet, make sure you stop by at the lobby and buy some cookies from the sorority! I promise my cookies are mostly edible, but it's okay if you pass them up for something else. I could use some more hockey pucks in my collection.

"Anyway, you can probably guess what I was thinking we could do for today. Love songs, duh! We should get in the mood of romance and love by singing about it! So what's your favorite love song? Bonus points for romantic duets, too, you guys! Music is perfect for expressing love and affection, so let's get going!"

Summer had set up today's class in the Danger Shop and let her students know with a handwavily e-mail.

The Danger Shop was set up to replicate the open ocean. As soon as the students entered the room, they'd find themselves aboard a ship that might have been found from the 1800s or earlier.

Sea serpents, ahoy! )

There were a good chunk of myths about sea serpents and Summer could have gone on for the entire class. Instead, she looked at her students and posed a question to them. "What are some sea serpent myths that you know of? After answering that question, feel free to explore the ship."

Alex wasn't late. She was on time. But it felt as though she was late, because she prided herself on being punctual.

Blame the bizarre monkey-creature who had been humping her leg at the Perk.

"We're taking a slight change in lesson plans today," Hook addressed the class as they all filed into the Danger Shop. He pointed to a barrel filled with foam-bladed cutlasses.

"We're covering the art of sword-fighting insults today. The ability to get your opponent off his guard with a well timed insult or a particularly clever comeback is essential to winning many a duel. And duels are far more common at sea than you'd expect."

He grinned from ear to ear. "For instance, if you were to tell your opponent 'You fight with all the skill of a dairy farmer', the proper comeback would be to declare 'How appropriate, you fight like a cow!'"

Hook laughed heartily, always a fan of a good jibe.

"You'll find posted on the mast a few helpful lists of various classic insults and comebacks. I want you to pair up and then practice your battling wits. If anyone pairs up with Zack or Jason, do play nicely as you'll be fighting unarmed men."

He was pretty much asking to get slapped with a fish again, really.

"There you go, chop chop, grab a foam sword as a prop if you like. And if you experiment with your own insults, please keep it somewhat clean. Good form is important, even in insults. That's good boys and girls."
