She'd stumbled out of her portal with barely enough time to spare to get cleaned up before her library shift, and Gabrielle certainly looked like she needed the coffee that she started brewing as soon as she arrived.

She settled, instead, for leaving the coffee to brew and slouching down with her head on the collections desk and a small sign beside her that read Please ring bell for assistance. Propped up next to said bell, of course. And she would help you, too, if you needed assistance -- it would be a welcome distraction.

Mitchell looked more than a bit less pale today; he had a flush in his cheeks and his motions were fluid, less prone to the occasional shake. At the same time, he was also quieter than usual, a little subdued, and, if you knew how to look for it, guilty. Still, he was standing at the front of the class today, serious, and ready to dive in.

Another Japanese Etiquette class, another week with the cushions and the slippers. You probably all know the drill by now. Algren will laugh at you if you don't. And then throw the slippers at you.

He's nice like that.

"Since it's been a chilly weekend for many of you, I thought we might go somewhere a bit more tropical for the day," Ghanima said.  "Hawaiian mythology refers to the legends, historical tales and sayings of the ancient Hawaiian people. It is considered a variant of a more general Polynesian mythology, developing its own unique character for several centuries before about 1800. It is associated with the Hawaiian religion, the system of beliefs that represent the beauty and mystery of Hawaiian sacred traditions. The religion was officially suppressed in the 19th century, but kept alive by some practitioners to the modern day." Movie days are awesome... )

"Today we are going to watch a film that is loosely based on this particular myth of Hi'iaka, and then I'd like you to discuss what similarities you see."

As he waited for the class to assemble, Bond rocked on his heels in a movement that could almost be called bouncy.

"Good morning, class. Today we'll be taking advantage of the weekend's weather to work on your strategy skills," he said, gesturing at the remaining snow covering the lawn. He hoped his meaning was clear "There'll be two sections to this morning's class, to begin with you'll be dividing into two teams to construct fortifications and to discuss both offensive and defensive tactics, then about halfway through the class you will hear the sound of an airhorn, which will be your cue to put those plans into action. Any premptive attacks will result in the entire class being allowed you pelt you with snowballs, call it a firing squad."

"Given the effort involved in I believe we can skip the warm up this time." Bond clapped his hands together. "Spilt into your teams and your strategising time starts now."

"Today we talk about something called the Golden Rule, a concept which unites many of the separate religions on this planet," Anakin began as he leaned against his desk and stared around the classroom. "It sounds altruistic: 'do unto others as you would have done unto you', but there seem to be a few logical flaws in it. What if you don't mind getting poked in the stomach? Does it follow that you could wander around aimlessly poking people? What if you don't see anything wrong with stealing? Or killing? Or hating entire groups of people on principle? If the practical application is supposed to be you randomly help people because they could be good, wouldn't the opposite be that you could randomly harm people because they might be evil?"

He shrugged. "I suppose the Golden Rule could be broken down to 'be nice to people, and they'll be nice to you' but out here in the real world, we all know it doesn't exactly work like that, and the concept could also be reinterpreted as 'it doesn't bother me, so why does it bother you?' Is this a case of aiming for an ideal and hoping that it will cause a ripple effect of positive things, or something overly simplistic that taken to its logical extreme renders itself useless?"

He smiled. "I like to ask nice, easy questions."
