The power was out when Gavin woke up. The power continued to be out when Gavin (possibly stupidly) started tromping over to the flight shed for the first meeting of the club for the new semester. The power remained out and thus, there was no working flight sim.

Well, bummer.

The snow continued to fall and Gavin decided just to make this a quick meeting so no one would freeze and possibly sue him.

"Uh, hey guys," he said, blowing warm air through his hands. "So, we have no power. We have no flight sim. This is only the first meeting so hopefully this gets fixed by next time. Um, we can do quick intros and then we can all go run back inside and get warm. Or, as warm as we can since there's no power."

Kriffing power.

"So, I'm Gavin. I'm a senior. I fly X-Wings back home. And I'm really kriffing cold."

He was a desert boy, he was allowed to be cold.

"Okay, anyone can go next. Name, class, what you fly if you fly and if you're cold or not."

Sam wasn't about to let a little power outage keep him out of the library. After all, without television or other entertaining electronics, the odds of someone coming in to get a book was a lot higher. At least, that was Sam's hope.

The windows in the library gave him enough light to get by, but he still had flashlights at the desk. A little extra light by which to read was never a bad thing.

"HELLO, CLASS," boomed Hammer as he entered. He was dressed exactly as he always was, of course. Heroes didn't feel cold. "Today, since it appears to be a bit chilly, I thought we could play dress up!"

He wasn't kidding. Hammer picked up a big trunk of clothes like it weighed nothing and opened it, pulling out capes and lycra and horrifying amounts of spandex.

"Pick out something that you think is a good superhero outfit! And don't forget to pin your logo to your chest! If you don't like our selection here," he added with a little frown, because he thought it was all pretty fierce, "you can design something and bring it in for extra credit next week!"

Hands firmly jammed in his jacket pockets, Mohinder was standing by the windows - light had won out over the cold.

"Unprotected in freezing conditions the human body has only a limited period of time before it loses its capacity to regulate it's own temperature. Normally we function at a little above or below 37 degrees, with definite medical issues creeping in three or four degrees either way," said Mohinder, handing out thermometers. He held one under his tongue, waited until it beeped and held it up. "37.2 - Try it."

"This is your hypothalamus, regulator of several metabolic processes - hunger, thirst, emotional behaviour - " continued Mohinder pointing up at the diagram behind him. "As well as keeping you at a steady temperature in concert with sweating, shivering and dilation or contraction of the blood vessels," he went on.

"Cryobiology as a science is constantly improving, not only with focussed freezing as surgery. But also with the aim of freezing tissues so quickly that undamaged thawing can take place. Currently this is only the case for reproductive materials, cornea and skin cells." Mohinder picked up a thin slice of pineapple, flipped open the container in front of him and held it over the dry ice.

He held up the frozen fruit slice. "As you'll see in your samples."

When students filed into the Danger Shop, they would find themselves in the front room of a large colonial home. Algren, who was, yes, fully clothed thank you very much, seemed almost worryingly amused as he waited for everyone to settle in. He started speaking even as the students were sitting down and thawing out.
