Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Willow found an available seat and immediately set about devouring - not literally - her info packet.

Of note was the rat in the cage beside her. Also the way she occasionally fiddled with her hair as though she really wished it could be shorter.

Z stood nervously by the table, a cup of punch in one hand, a cookie in the other--free food!--and a foot hooked into the straps of her duffel bag to deter potential thieves. She knows the score.

She can still be heard muttering under her breath, "Don't replicate. Don't replicate."

Nadia was anxious to frighten intimidate welcome the new students with lots of horror stories.

She was also keeping an eye out for the new roommie.

After getting her information packet and chatting with her new roommate, who seemed really nice, Marie grabbed some food because the food on the train had been gross and sat down to watch the crowd while she reviewed all the information about the school and the camp.

Shawn grabbed food, everything he could find, and found himself an empty table.

He pulled the information packet out of his bag again and looked around at all the other people, this wasn't quite how he'd expected it to be.

Peter avoided the food tables having learned from years of state banquets that heeding the call of nature in the middle of a party was generally considered rude.

He scanned the lawn, looking for anyone who might look like a boy named Ainsley. Or really, anyone who looked less lost than himself.

Greg wandered over and sat down at a table with a plate piled high with food.

Yes, he had just eaten an hour ago. But he was sixteen. Those cookies? Were vital to his growth.

He looked around in what he really thought was a very sneaky way at all the people milling about.

Cute girl, cute girl, cute girl...really cute girl....

Camp? Not going to suck. He'd write home and let his sister know to call off the protest later.

Peter makes his way to the food tables and begins to have at it. He might have swallowed a napkin. Not that it bothered him. This one time at Disney World he ate the tail of a Piglet costume thinking it was a real pig.

This was worse than facing down Prince John's men. There were so many people here.

Zack did what he always did when he was in a social situation, he started up his camera.

So what if the school counselor called it an avoidance technique, at least he wouldn't have to talk to people.

Miles waited until the crush around the refreshment table had subsided a bit before snagging some of the food. It would be bad form to break a bone on his first day hour.

Ellie looked around at the students, new and old. So far none of them looked as strange as the man at the apartment complex. A couple of the kids looked like they might be from another time, but another planet? That had yet to be seen.

Finding the food but still feeling very out of sorts, Cedric concentrates on running through old quidditch scores in his head. Pass the time, make it go faster and he'd be back at Hogwarts before he knew it.

Jude was, and always will be, permanently attached to his board. Then again, collisions were usually a good way to meet people. In deference to the new terrain to which he wasn't quite used to, though, he was on his feet, the board tucked under his arm as he explored.

Dude, his parents sucked. Boarding school. In the States. With no mall. Harsh.

Dean was still disgruntled about having to give up his weapons -- and the fact that it was his brother that got the pretty girl for his roommate, but hey at least there was food.

Filling his plate, he looked around for somewhere to sit and eat.

Draco was here. He didn't really care about greeting the newbies too much. What he did care about was brownies at the food table.

Jack strolled around the edge of the crowd, standard smile firmly in place, wondering which of these people he might actually know. Or who might know him.

Since he had no idea when he'd last eaten, he headed towards the food table, intent on snagging something and watching from the sidelines until he figured this out.

As he slid through the people, he couldn't help but grin: he didn't think he'd ever seen so many pretty people in one place. Maybe this would turn out to be all right after all.

Conner would like to say it only took him a couple of quick trips up to 314 to get all his stuff put away, but unfortunately his idea of "quick" is still undergoing a major readjustment. There's "quick" as in "normal," and then there's "quick" as in "I used to be." Normal-quick is still kind of a bummer.

He's dribbling his miniature soccer ball across the lawn as he heads for the food tables, though. As usual. Because Conner McKnight without his soccer ball is a sign of the end of the world.

There's free food so Cameron heads out to grab some and watches the new students head in. Some of them actually look familiar, but that doesn't mean anything.

He'd found his roommate, but there was food to be had, so 494 grabbed a couple snack-type things and wandered a bit. The girls so far? Were pretty hot. This would be a good summer.

Dawn went up to the food table and returned with what other people might consider an odd assortment, not that she did.

Pizza with pineapple and anchovies was perfectly normal, thank you very much.
