Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

She smiled, "yeah that's what Geoff said, about it being dull, he also said women didn't actually have to do anything, I couldn't decided if that would either be really cool or really dull, I'm inclinded to the last one actually, I like to be occupied, I get bored easily," she admitted.

She smirked a little at what he'd seen as a faux pas, "that's okay know what you mean and given how often people come and go you're right, I am an old hand. I've been tempted to leave once or twice, I just keep finding reasons to stay, like my sisters."

Then she blushed at the compliment, making a mental note for the third time that the guys from the past definitely had better manners than those she'd met before coming here, "that's sweet of you to say, but I should probably warn you, it's not the only thing that's different about the school, there's the different time periods for a start. I'd try to explain how all that works, but it gives me a headache."

"His Court may have been different than mine - my sisters do much at the Cair Paravel. I'm sure they enjoy it more than me. But then I'm more like you - if I can't keep occupied, I get bored. And, well, bureaucratic trivia doesn't count as keeping occupied." Peter said with a smile.

"What would you do if you left? Or rather, what reasons do you find to say? If asking isn't too bold."

"Different time periods? Like..." Peter flailed as he tried to find words. "As there's more than one entrance to the island? I can understand that, I think. If you promise not to think me mad when I say I once arrived in a land through a wardrobe. A rather large wardrobe obviously." Peter grinned.

"I was going to leave because I felt a misplaced duty to someone, I was going to go to court with him, but in the end I figured I was needed here more, like I said my sisters are here, if I'd left I couldn't be sure I'd get back to them when the time came." she explained some what obscurely, "plus I have a good here than I didn't really want to leave, and I understand now that an educations a good thing to have, plus I don't think I'd have liked the 14th century much!"

The flailing made her smile, "well put it this way, I'm from the 20th century, I dated a 14th century poet and I just said goodbye to someone from space, so don't worry, the wardrobe thing is totally believeable, a little odd I guess but sure I don't think you're mad. Being in this place'll make you believe anything."

Then she figures she might as well ask the big question, "Do you believe in magic Peter?"

Peter made an involuntary movement to reach out to the girl but stopped himself in time. It wouldn't be proper no matter how sad she sounded.

"As duty goes, the one you have to your siblings is almost always the strongest." said the boy who accepted a destiny to save his brother. He sounded very grave. "I'm sorry you had to make that decision, Lady Paige. You are a good person, and I honor you for that."

Magic? Peter thought for a way to answer the question. "I believe my siblings and I were brought into another country through a wardrobe and an enchanted wood to save the land from a wicked spell and a tyrant who believed only in winter. I have talked with fauns and dryads and fought then made treaties giants. So yes, I can't help but believe in magic. Do you?"

She noticed the movement and was possibly just a little disappointed that he stopped himself, damn these old fashioned men and their manners.

She shrugged off the compliment about her being good, she wasn't so sure about that sometimes, "it wasn't as hard a decision as I expected actually, I only recently found them so it just seemed right that I stay, get to know them a bit better," plus she had the whole Power of Three responsibilities that she couldn't really ignore.

Her eyes went wider as he spoke about everything he'd done, it almost made her life seem normal, "you could say that." she took a deep breath pretty sure he wasn't going to react badly but you could never quite tell with these things, "I'm a witch."

"Still, I can't help but think you courageous." He wanted to ask how she didn't know she had sisters until just recently but suppressed his curiosity.

Peter blinked at her bald statement. The beautiful girl in front of him looked nothing like Jadis nor did she seem to have Jadis' evil gaze. He didn't think she was going to turn him into stone next and take the country into an eternal winter. "Please don't think me rude, Lady Paige. I'm just only met one witch before and she was nothing at all like you." He tilted his head and smiled, "May I ask what being a witch entails?"

She bit her lip and looked down, she wasn't used to hearing these things and wasn't too sure how to take it, "we do we have to don't we?" she replied looking up finally with a slightly coy smile.

"Don't tell me you were expecting warts and a broom stick right?" she asked, amused, "and to be honest I'm not sure other than casting spells and I'm not even meant to do that, well not without my sisters. I'm kinda telekinetic too, which is pretty handy."

Peter returned her smile with one of his own and a small bow, not taking his eyes from hers.

"Well, perhaps less warts and a broomstick, than eternal ice, a chariot pulled by polar bears, and a tendency to turn dissidents into stone?" He wrinkled his nose. "None of which I can begin to picture you doing. You and your sisters are a team of sorts, you being daughters of Eve? It's the same with my siblings and I. Without all four of us, we couldn't manage." Telekinetic...he thanked god and Susan for forcing him to learn Latin. "You move things with your thoughts? That could defnitely be useful if one's feeling lazy or can't move!"

She wasn't sure if she was reading something into the way he was looking at her that wasn't actually there, but she was definitely happy that she was single right now, plus he was English and cute which was always good. She didn't look away either, it had been ages since anyone had actually showed an interest in her probably thanks to Sawyer.

She looked slightly worried when he mentioned her and her sisters being a team, it was a little too close to the truth, although she got the feeling she could trust him, "something like that yeah, although my older sister Piper just graduated so I guess we're just gonna have to cope," she said although that did worry her a little.

"Not with my thoughts exactly, more with words, I say the name of the object and they just sort of come to me, to be honest I generally just use it to show off," she said with a small laugh, okay so she'd used her power during the battle to save Phoebe but she didn't want to bring that up.

It had been such a long time since Peter had flirted with a girl without the weight of the High King resting on his shoulders that he could possibly be unable to stop looking at the pretty American.

Until she seemed slightly upset by what he said. "I don't mean to pry or anything. I just know something of the..." how to phrase it? destiny of siblings? He settled with a lame "...need to work closely with your sisters and brothers. And I'm sure you'll do very well either without Piper. I don't have my sibs here either - we'll have to muddle through together. What are the names of your other sisters? Or sister?"

Peter laughed with Paige. "That's probably what I'd do if I had such a talent."

Paige isn't about to complain, far from it, because seriously a cute Brit from the past flirting with her, pretty much her idea of Heaven at the moment.

She smiled to show him show him she was okay, "no it's fine, I just...didn't expect anyone else to understand to be honest, you're right thought, we do need each other. My other sister's called Phoebe, and there's Prue as well, but she never came here so I don't really know her very well," she said inwardly gleeing at the fact he'd used the word 'together.'

Yep Fandom High had never looked so good.

Peter was, at the minute, most definitely glad he'd come to Fandom.

"There's four of us as well - though two of us are male." He winked. "Susan, Edmund, then Lucy. All of whom are still in Narn...erm...back home."

"So tell me, may I get you a glass of punch or water or something to eat from the tables? And if you'll forgive me from asking a rather mundane question, what's been the most memorable part of this school so far? I've already heard rumors of squid and all sorts of other things."

She thought for a moment, "punch would be good, thank you, hopefully it won't have been spiked yet," she said, because Paige did not drink!

She giggled at the fact he'd thought that question was mundane, he'd obviously not heard that much, "well the zombies stand out," she admitted, "and learning cat."

Peter came back with a glass of punch and plate of cookies. "I don't think it's been spiked at all. At least it still smells fruity. Which I suppose could be masking other components. Try it and if it is, I'll find you something better." He smiled at Paige.

"Learning cat? The language?" Funny, any cat he'd ever spoken to had spoken English. "It's always been my experience that no matter how much you speak to a cat, he'll only answer back if he feels like it."

"my knight in shining armour," she replied to the comment about getting her something better, before taking the glass and sipping it carefully, just in case it was spiked, she knew what some of these students were like, she'd been one! "I'm pretty sure it's okay, it tastes it at least,"

"yeah the language, it was pretty fun actually, especially actually being a cat and you're right about them only talking when they feel like it, they have better things to do, you know like chasing none exsistant bits of dust and sleeping in sun beams...or maybe that was just me!" she joked.

"I'm not wearing my armor. And they made me turn in my sword too which rather decreases my effectiveness. Knight, I am though."

There was a beat as Peter realised she wasn't speaking literally. He blushed bright red and lost most capacity for speech.

*cough* "You'd be a lovely cat!" Right, Peter, because that was a better topic. He coughed again, ears still red. "What other languages did you learn? Dryad?"

She smiled and put her hand on his shoulder, "good to know I'll be safe if the zombies come back, cos they let us have the weapons back then," she told him, more than a little impressed that he was knight.

"Well apparently Jiji thought so, he was my friend's cat, he hit on me when I was changed. As for other language, well there was rat, dragon, spider and crow, but we didn't get changed this semester, so I um didn't do quite so well, dragons hard." she told him possibly pouting slightly. "Dryads are wood spirits right?"

Grateful for her save, Peter smiled back and put his hand over hers for a moment. "I would bet, Lady Paige, that you can be your own protection. But if you ever are in need of mine, my sword and shield are at your service." He bowed slightly.

"I can imagine creature's languages would be nigh impossible without being able to utlize some replication of their mouths and speech organs. Certainly no blame could be attached to you." He might have been suppressing an 'aww' at the pout. "Dryads are wood spirits, yes. Some of the most incredibly beautiful - present company excepted - women I've seen. Well, them and mermaids. Dryads gather to dance with the fauns at high summer and other festivals.

She grinned and yay touching! "Well yeah I guess I can, pretty much, but in my experience guys like to feel like heros, but I guess if you're a knight you're already one of those, or is the term 'champion'?" she asked looking thoughtful for a moment.

Then Paige did something Paige does not do, she blushed, Peter was officially the most charming guy she'd met, and she'd once dated Geoff Chaucer, "I thought it was Nymphs that danced with fauns, are am I getting them confused with Satyrs? I lose track," she admited. "oh and you're not to shabby yourself,"

"I'm neither, really. Just a guy who ended up in a situation beyond his control. I had to save my brother, you see. And ended up a knight." He smiled sheepishly.

"In Narnia, nymphs live in wells, and the dryads dance with the fauns. I don't know if nymphs dance as well. Maybe with the merman out at sea?" He looked thoughtful.

"And now we have a mutual admiration society," Peter said mischieviously and winked. "But is it getting cold out here, shall I escort you inside?" He offered Paige his arm.

"Well saving your brother makes me a hero in my eyes," she told him, or course by that reckoning that would make her a heroine, but she hadn't really thought of that.

Paige looked slightly confused as she followed his logic, "I think maybe nymphs in my world are different to in yours, although I've only read about them."

"it is getting a little cold yeah," she said taking his arm "thank you kind sir,"

Peter escorted her to her dorm room leaving her with a bow at her doorstep.
