Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

The office folks? Do not exactly look happy to be out here.

Zoe's standing at the end of the information table, looking her most professional (and intimidating) in an effort to catch people before they can go any farther.

"Good morning. I'm Principal Washburn, and I'm here to remind you that if you have any weapons with you, you must put them in the weapons locker as soon as possible. As per the rules in your information packet, you are not allowed to carry weapons in the school or keep them in your room. You don't need to be concerned about locking them away; all of your belongings will remain completely safe in the locker. Thank you."

The food tables await! Come mingle, meet new people, and find your roommates!

Did I miss anything? *frets*

Willow snagged every piece of paperwork that the office folks had to offer. Possibly a lot more than she needed. She immediately started marking her info packet with highlighters.

Z picked up her information packets and hoped they would make all of this make a modicum more sense. Then she saw that her new room was on the third floor. Great. Well, it wasn't that far to haul a duffel bag.

Marie picked up her information packet and began looking around, wondering how on earth she would find her roommate in this crowd.

"Room 509," she muttered to herself, almost bumping into the girl with the highlighters. "Guess I'll be doing a lot of steps."

Z came over. "Uh, I have this laser beam thingy Space Patrol Delta issued me. I guess I need to turn that over, huh?"

Willow found an available seat and immediately set about devouring - not literally - her info packet.

Of note was the rat in the cage beside her. Also the way she occasionally fiddled with her hair as though she really wished it could be shorter.

"509?" Willow perked up. She checked her packet again, where room assignments had been marked with purple. "That's me! I mean, I'm me. I'm Willow. I'm in 509. As a room. Hi!"

Z stood nervously by the table, a cup of punch in one hand, a cookie in the other--free food!--and a foot hooked into the straps of her duffel bag to deter potential thieves. She knows the score.

She can still be heard muttering under her breath, "Don't replicate. Don't replicate."

Dawn dragged her suitcase in, tripping over something on her way over. She picked up her packet and paged through it. "Third floor's not so bad. Sam Winchester? I hope she's nice..."

Shawn took the packet that were thrust at him by a rather testy looking man, thanked him and started digging into it to see if he could work out what to do with it all. He wasn't a big fan of paperwork.

Nadia was anxious to ~~frighten~~ ~~intimidate~~ welcome the new students ~~with lots of horror stories~~.

She was also keeping an eye out for the new roommie.

Oh yeah, Nadia recognized that look. It was probably identical to the one she wore her first day. "Don't worry," she told the girl. "There are actually surprisingly few people around here who might make off with your bag."

"You are? Wow. That was easier than I thought it would be! I'm Marie," she shifted some of the items she was carrying and stuck out her hand. "Nice to meet you, Willow."

Dawn put her backpack down on the table with a thunk and started unloading it, a bit grumpily. "Did my sister know about this?"

She pulled out a small double-bladed axe and placed it on the table, then asked, "How do you feel about stakes? Weapons or not? They could be tent pegs, you know."

After getting her information packet and chatting with her new roommate, who seemed really nice, Marie grabbed some food because the food on the train had been gross and sat down to watch the crowd while she reviewed all the information about the school and the camp.

"I don't even know what's in it," Z confessed. "They gave me this stuff before I left and I felt kind of stupid looking at it with Officer Blake on the transport...I mean, hi. I'm Z Delgado." She offered one hand to shake.

Peter picked up his information packet and started looking through it.

"Room 513...who would name his son Ainsley?" he muttered under his breath as he followed the queue further into the room.

At the sound of his name, Sam looked up from the papers he'd grabbed for himself and Dean and glanced at the girl. "Hi?" he said cautiously.

Nadia smiled. Oh yeah, she definitely knew that look. "Nadia Santos. Same thing happened to me, last year, only I had a backpack full of random stuff an officer had given me. I'll have to take you shopping."

"Marie! Hi!" Willow juggled her books, papers, and a portable rat cage containing one live rat. "Willow Rosenberg. Sunnydale, California. Sixteen years old. Junior. Jewish. Daughter of Ira - is this coming off rehearsed? I don't want to sound rehearsed."

Dawn smiled at the tall, cute boy. Maybe camp wouldn't be so bad. "Hi."

"You're kidding. Oh, no, I can't, I--I don't have. Um. Money." Well, Cruger had said he would give her a stipend.
