Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

After getting her information packet and chatting with her new roommate, who seemed really nice, Marie grabbed some food because the food on the train had been gross and sat down to watch the crowd while she reviewed all the information about the school and the camp.

Dawn dragged her suitcase over. "Hi. Are you new? Please tell me you're new? Or, if you're not new, can you tell me whether it's normal to room with boys?" She plopped into a chair. "I'm Dawn, by the way."

"I'm new," Marie confirmed with a smile. "My name's Marie. And what do you mean, rooming with boys?"

"I mean, my roommate? He's a boy. And a really cute boy." She looked around for him, then pointed in Sam's direction. "There, that's him."

Marie's eyes grew wide. "Wow, he is really cute," she agreed. "But you have to share a room with him? That's... weird."

She glanced around and pointed to Willow. "That's my roommate," she said. "She seems really nice."

"He's got a brother, too," Dawn informed her, "and yeah, maximum weirdness, but he seems nice so far." Only time would tell if he was a demon or a vampire or a freshman.

Dawn followed where Marie had pointed. And her jaw dropped. "Willow?"

"Yeah, that's what she said her name was," Marie said. "You know her? She said she's from some small town in California. Sunny... glen, maybe?"

"Dale," Dawn said, still confused. She'd have to talk to Willow later--it would be very bad if she'd dipped into the magic books again. "Sunnydale. I went to high school there, too, briefly, but she was a few years ahead of me."

"Oh, so you're a freshman, too?" Marie asked. "Because I think Willow said she was a junior."

Jamie gets a weird familiar vibe when he sees the girl in the brown hair when he walks past her.

He stops and turns around and gives her a long look.

"Hi... Okay and this isn't some cheezy pick-up line but I swear I know you from someplace. Jamie Madrox," he said extending his hand.

Marie looks up and shakes the proffered hand.

"Marie D'Ancanto," she replies with a smile. "And I'm pretty sure we've never met. I'm from Meridian, Mississippi. You?"

"New York City," Jamie said looking a little embarrassed. "Originally from Kansas but that was a while ago. You new here?"

"Yeah, just arrived this morning," Marie said, pointing to the packet in front of her. "You?"

"Ditto. My 'Dad' thought it would be a good learning experience for me. It was either this or a private school in Salem but there's no way I was going to wear tights- *cough* - I mean a school uniform," Madrox said hoping the bit about tights was covered by the cough.

Marie did catch the comment about tights and didn't even want to know what kind of school would require it's male students to wear them.

"Same here," she said. "Well, not about the private school in Salem, but my parents wanted a 'unique educational opportunity' for me," she shrugged. "If I like it, they said I can enroll in the fall and stay here."

"Yeah," Jamie said watching a guy check in a sword and asking Principal Zoe if he could keep his shield. "Unique Opportunity is one word for it. I'm here for the summer myself though dear old 'Dad' might have other ideas when camp is over. I don't think he likes me hanging around too much."

"Really? My dad hugged me about twelve times before I got on the train and made me insist on calling every other day to check in," Marie said. She wasn't used to dealing with people that didn't have close families.

Cameron looked confused for a moment as the girl looked a lot like Rogue who he hadn't seen in months. Then again, there was no blonde streak and that could mean a world of difference.

"Yo, I'm Cameron Mitchell and I'm going to be very cliché, but you remind me of someone."

"I'm Marie D'Ancanto and you're the second guy who's used that line on me today," she said with a grin.

That name didn't ring a bell, so lookalike it was.

"I'm afraid to say this, but you might have that happen more today. There was a girl here named Rogue who looked exactly like you, only she had this white streak in her hair," he said motioning up to his own head to show her where. "Nice to meet you, Marie."

"She looked exactly like me?" Marie repeated, blinking in confusion. "That's... weird. And what kind of name is Rogue?"

She shrugged. "Nice to meet you, too, Cameron. Are you new as well?"

"No, I've been here since September," Cameron replied.

"The lookalike thing is weird at first, but she's not around so you don't have to actually deal with it. There's a guy around here who looks exactly like me, he's just a bit pudgier."

Marie raised her eyebrows. She was starting to get the idea that this place was a little strange, but lookalikes?

"Well, I guess it's good that she's not here then. Hopefully I can clear up any confusion and be good to go."

She tilted her head. "Since September? Got any advice for a newbie?"

"People are used to it by now, John and I aren't the only doppelgangers around," he assured her.

"Let's see," he considered it for a moment. "Be careful of the cafeteria food as it sometimes has strange side effects. If you run into small green creatures, try not to get bitten because again, weird side effects. We haven't had any gremlins around in a while. And then there are the monster invasions, but that's kinda hard to prepare yourself for."

Marie blinked. Several times, in fact.

"When you say strange side effects, you don't mean rashes or swelling or something, do you?" she asked finally. "And I'm not sure if I want to know what you mean by monster invasions."
