Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"I really should have videoed everything when I first arrived, would have made remembering all the names so much easier." She stopped herself from rambling further when she realised she didn't really know who she was talking to. "So, welcome to Fandom High..." She paused, hoping he would catch the drift and fill in the blank.

Sadly catching the drift would have required Zack to have the social awareness God gave a cabbage. "I don't actually need the camera to remember, but it's still good scientific practice to have photographic and video references."

Mac smirked, "that's very organised of you." He had obviously completely missed her hint. It might be easier to just be blunt about it. "What's your name?"

Zack pinched himself on the sly, since again, not a familiar situation. "Zack Addy. I'm new, are you?"

"Oh, nope. I'm old...or actually not old, old. I've been here since January though." She grinned at his apparent confusion. "I'm eterally curious, and wanted to meet all the new people," she gestured at him, "like yourself. What brings you here for the summer?"

"A math teacher bearing a grudge," Zack said. "Supposedly the interaction will be good for me."

Mac grinned, "well see, it's doing what he intended it to already. I didn't realise math teachers held so much sway over what you did with your summer vacation, though."

"He managed to convince my parents that transferring me here would be good idea. The camp was just an extra bit of torture."

"It's not so bad really. I stayed here out of choice." She shrugged, "it's better than going home and getting annoyed to death by my little brother. I prefer it here."

"True, there is an appeal in a summer away from my brothers and sisters," Zack said. "Which was one of the reasons I applied for that internship."
