Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

From across the room, she couldn't take her eyes off him but was in no way going to crush on anyone this soon after saying goodbye to Emmett.

No way.

Ok, maybe a little way...that guy was cute.

She looked down into her bag and Bruiser looked back up at her with a doggie look of 'you have got to be kidding.'

"What? I just want to say hi." she said as she looked back up and smiled at cute-boy-who-wasn't-Emmett.

Jack glanced up and saw a very, very cute girl staring at him. He flashed her a grin, tilting his head to the side in question and raising an eyebrow in invitation.

That was all the invite she needed. She patted Bruiser on the head and walked confidently across the room until she was within arms reach. Thrusting her hand forward, she tossed her hair over her shoulder and smiled. "Hi! I'm Elle!" she exclaimed.

Jack smiled slowly, and reached for her hand, drawing it up and pressing a kiss to the back of it. "Jack Harkness at your service." He was still holding it when he asked, "And who's your friend?"

She watched as his lips met her hand and she might have squeaked just a little. That wasn't what she expected at all.

"You're way classier than any frat boy." she said before she could stop herself, then she blushed furiously and looked down into her bag.

"This is Bruiser."

Jack supressed a grin at the squeak, but it snuck out when she blushed.

"Well, Elle, I'm very pleased to meet you, and Bruiser," he said, ignoring the comment about frat boys. He let go of her hand, patting it gently, and offered his fingers to Bruiser to sniff.

"What brings you here?"

Bruiser stretched forward to sniff tentatively, growled low and backed off then sniffed again. Moments later he was wriggling out of the bag to lick Jack's fingers and try to climb into his arms. Elle was oblivious.

"I'm here to be a camp counselor. Some teacher quit to go off and find herself. Or her kids. Or something." she looked bemused, the it faded and she continued, "Whatever. Anyhow my friend landed this job but got her hair burned off in a horrible salon accident and so she's recovering from the shock and I'm here to take her place since I can totally put my law internship on hold for a Delta." she said as she nodded emphatically.

Jack scratched Bruiser behind the ears, and tried to follow what Elle was saying. "Wait, you're a teacher? Or a counsellor, rather?" Sighing sadly, he said, "That is truly devestating. Of course, I'm sure classes, or camp, don't start right away..."

"I take it that makes you a student, huh?" she asked, with more than a hint of a pout. "You don't look like a student..." she said as she shut down the urge to flirt and reverted to simply being social. "I think Bruiser really likes you. He doesn't kiss on people he's just met. Normally."

"You'd be amazed how often I hear that," Jack said with a grin. "And yes, I'm a student." With a mournful sigh, he gave Bruiser a last pat and straightened. "It's incredibly generous of you to come all the way out here to help out a friend. I like that in a person."

[OOC: Woes. I'm not doing Elle justice by any stretch of the imagination, mostly because I am in dire need of sleep. *offers you a flirtation raincheque*]

"That's so sweet of you, Jack." she said with a bright grin. "Good friends are worth the whole world, you know? Serena and Margot..." and she babbled on about her best friends, the Delta Nu's, Enid and Vivian and the value of a good manicurist while she petted Bruiser and tried to discretely not brush against Jack's fingers.
