Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

"Coffee, or else I'm getting a Netflix subscription. My laptop will play DVDs. So what if I'm always a few months behind."

Isabel rolled her eyes, "I heard about that. Testosterone does bad things to the male impluse control doesn't it?"

"We've got a DVD player in the room," Elizabeth offered. "There might be one in the 2nd floor common room too. Maybe StuCo should start a movie night once a month or something next semester. Once there is a StuCo again."

She nodded. "I know! I swear, there'd be so fewer wars in the world if we could just get rid of all the testosterone!"

"Watching a movie while attempting to be date-like in the common room? That's just asking for a peanut gallery. And that would not be fun," Isabel laughed. "Well not unless you were a member of the peanut gallery. Movie night would be fun. And definitely less stressful then game nights."

"I totally agree."

"I think if you truly wanted to stay clear of a peanut gallery? You might have to leave the island," Elizabeth laughed. "How's the last one going, by the way? If you need a hand or two, I'm here."

"Yeah, a trip to the next state might not be such a bad idea," she laughed. "As for trivia night? It's on hold at the moment. I never got any of the questions I was looking for."

Elizabeth giggled. "That's a good idea. Or there's always DC, which isn't a state so I'm being picky there," she said. She frowned slightly. "That sucks. Maybe some of the new people will contribute if you ask again?"

"I liked the trip we did to Baltimore." She smiled remember Archie's enthusiasm when they toured the USS Constitution. "There's some neat stuff up there. Hopefully they will. I think I'll wait till everyone gets settled though before asking again."

"I missed that one. Of course, I had just got back from England," Elizabeth grinned. "I think it's important that the school keeps allowing for these trips for the sake of students not from around here. That, and I like to travel!" She giggled, before nodding. "Yeah, probably a very good idea. I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off at some point."

"I think we need to go to ballgame at some point. I'm just not sure who to talk to about it. What's more normal then hotdogs and baseball?" Isabel asked. "Maybe we can get the school to sponser a trip to an Orioles game. Travel is fun. Of course it depends on where and why you're traveling."

"The vice-principal perhaps?" Elizabeth suggested. "He seems to be up for fun." She grinned. "If it's a Red Sox game, I'm there!" Elizabeth nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah. And also? Spending hours in Heathrow is never fun."

"That's true, I bet we could talk Hawkeye into it." Isabel mimed writting a note, "I'll call him soon and ask about it. Oh, and if you ever get a chance to dance with him? Do it. He's a wonderful dancer."

"I haven't been to Europe yet. Someday..."

"Excellent. It's been years since I've been to a ballgame," Elizabeth grinned. "Oh? I danced with Professor Lyman and Dr. Jackson at prom. Although I'm not sure if you can call it dancing with Professor Lyman at least! I'll keep an eye out for our vice-principal at Homecoming."

She nodded. "It's a great place. Anywhere in specific, or just anywhere you want to go?"

"Did he have two left feet?" she asked with a laugh. "I would have thought he'd know how to dance after all the White House dinners."

"I don't know specifically. I just know I'd like to see it before the time comes for me to leave." She shrugged, "cause I don't know that I'll be back."

"Oh, yes," Elizabeth said with feeling. "That's what I thought too! Apparently CJ's tried to teach him many times. I tried teaching him. He is, possibly, unteachable."

She nodded. "Yeah, I get that. I'd probably suggest England, Italy and Russia."

"At least he can get by on his charm," Isabel grinned. "He certainly has that in abundance."

"I'll keep that in mind. Maybe next Spring Break."

Elizabeth laughed. "He really does. And he needs it in DC. Especially when he comes up with secret plans to fight inflation!"

She nodded. "My other piece of advice? Don't rush it too much."

"Just savor and enjoy a little bit at a time?"

"Exactly. I mean, you could rush around London in a day, but it doesn't really give you the feel for it, y'know?"

"~~Been there, done that.~~ I'll keep that in mind," Isabel said. "I'd love to just get in some of the museums and just walk."

~~Done that, but on several different days!~~ "London's got some great museums, yeah," Elizabeth nodded. "I've not done nearly as much there as I would have liked really."
