Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Jude was skating. Slowly, granted, but he still almost managed to collide with Nadia. He swerved around her and stopped, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry about that, bra," he drawled.

Nadia stepped back a pace to avoid the collision as well. "That's okay. You're new?"

"Jude Lizowski," he replied mellowly, shaking her hand equally mellowly. "Nice to meet ya, bra."

Jude chuckled. "Duuuuuude. I'm totally there." He perked up. "Is there a mall in town?"

This guy needed to meet the corner-boys. "And we have a Kwik Stop."

That would just about break my brain. "Dude, bummer." Jude slumped. "My 'rents sent me here 'cause I was spending too much time at the mall and totally blew calculus."

Jude scratched the back of his head. "So, bra, what's it like here? I'm, like, in a new country and everything." He winced. "I totally forgot to go to the bank before I left." He dug a pile of change and multi-coloured bills out of his pocket and stared at it mournfully. "Duuuuuude."

"It's like nowhere else." Nadia answered honestly. "And you'll be fine, just watch out for the gremlins. And handwash your clothes in case the laundry machines go on strike again. And never call Parker 'Maureen'." She could go on, but it might be best not to freak him out too soon. "So, where are you from?"

Jude seemed to take this in stride. After all, this was the boy who once believed that zombies had invaded the mall. "Gremlins, clothes, Parker dudette, cool," he drawled before adding. "Toronto. Canada." Just in case.

Phoebe stopped to say hello to the guy she had seen talking to Joxer.

"Maybe they're worried about the gremlins and the vampires and the fireball-throwing demons," Jude replied blandly. Nothing as insignificant as fireball-throwing demons could harsh his mellow.

"'Sokay, bra, I think she was trying to scare me," Jude replied, looking just about as not-scared as one could be. "I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it." Quick, Jude, change of subject. "I'm Jude, by the way."

She would have to find out later who was using Angel and Cole to try to frighten the new kids,

"I'm Phoebe," she said with a bright smile. "You don't look like the attempt at scaring you worked."

Jude chuckled. "Nah, bra. According to Wyatt and Jonesy I'm too laid back for my own good." And then zombies attacked the mall and he had to rescue his girlfriend from the roof of the Vegan Hut wielding a Super Soaker full of hot sauce. Oh wait, that was an extended dream sequence.

"Nah, bra, it's easy," he grinned. "Unless you want to get into the fancy stuff." He had no designs on the park and the pond, nope, none at all. Honest. "I can totally teach you." He gestured around the lawn. "Lots of grass. Waaaay better for wipeouts than the mall." He chuckled. "But you can catch some wicked air off an escalator."
