Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

She would have to find out later who was using Angel and Cole to try to frighten the new kids,

"I'm Phoebe," she said with a bright smile. "You don't look like the attempt at scaring you worked."

Jude chuckled. "Nah, bra. According to Wyatt and Jonesy I'm too laid back for my own good." And then zombies attacked the mall and he had to rescue his girlfriend from the roof of the Vegan Hut wielding a Super Soaker full of hot sauce. Oh wait, that was an extended dream sequence.

Phoebe grinned.

"Jude, I like you and hope we become great friends. It's nice to have someone around who's so relaxed."

"You seem pretty nice yourself, Pheebs," Jude said, adding a few ~~dozen~~ extra 'e's. "We should totally hang out." He perked up. "Do you skateboard?"

"Thank you, Jude." She looked at the board and shook her head. "Is it hard to learn? Because I would so totally love to learn how."

"Nah, bra, it's easy," he grinned. "Unless you want to get into the fancy stuff." He had no designs on the park and the pond, nope, none at all. Honest. "I can totally teach you." He gestured around the lawn. "Lots of grass. Waaaay better for wipeouts than the mall." He chuckled. "But you can catch some wicked air off an escalator."

"I definitely want to learn then, Jude," Phoebe said excitedly. She could see already that this would be a lot of fun. "I think there are plenty of places that you can do the fancy stuff."

"Awesome, bra," Jude grinned placidly.

Yep, Phoebe liked him. Nothing rattled him and he hadn't tried to immediately get her into bed. Much better than her first day had gone. This meant that he was probably one of the few guys Cole wouldn't hate on first sight.

"So, I'm nosy. What brings you to Fandom?" And how do you feel about being friends with witches?

~~That's because 6teen is a kids show.~~ Jude slumped. "My parents, bra. They got all upset when I bombed in school and they said I spent too much time at the mall. So they found a boarding school without a mall an' it musta been kinda hard 'cause they had to send me out of the country."

Phoebe frowned. She could entirely commiserate on this.

"My Grams sent me here because I kept getting into trouble at my old school. However, being here has been pretty cool for me. I've made a lot of great friends and I've learned all kinds of things I never expected to. It's true there's no mall... but Jude, I promise you, Fandom High and the island are anything but boring."

He grinned. Which really looked like a lethargic smile, but his eyes were wider. "I heard. It's gonna be awesome." He paused. "As soon as I stop missin' my friends."

Phoebe nodded in sympathy. "That is the hardest part, getting ovre the missing of your friends back home."

"I'll bet I'm totally make some new awesome ones, though," Jude replied. Just like it was almost impossible to make him upset, it was almost impossible to make him emo. The Jude abides. He grinned at her, trying not to dwell. "I totally already made one."

Phoebe grinned back. "Yes, you totally did." She ran a hand through her hair.

"It's been great chatting with you, Jude, but I need to go talk to a few more people. If you need anything, I'm in the South Attic. feel free to drop by or call."

Jude nodded. "Thanks, bra. I'm in . . ." he had to check the crumpled sheaf of papers crushed in his pocket. "407. Heh heh. 'lright, see ya around, bra!"

"I'll make sure I remember that," she said with a smile. "Have a good time and welcome to FH, Jude."
