Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

Xander looked around at all the people milling about. So far, the only person he knew was Briar. And while that was a good start... he really, really wanted to meet all these new people.

"Duuuuuuuuuuude."

Well, that's one way to meet new people.

"Hi, let me introduce myself," Xander said. "I'm Xander Bly!"

"Jude Lizowski," Jude replied mellowly. "Nice to meetcha, bro."

"You too, mate. You new here, or just one of the older students come to harass the newcomers?"

"Nah, bro, I'm new," Jude replied, scratching the back of his head. "Just got dropped off by the 'rents. I was totally bummed about coming here, but I think it's gonna be cool."

"Cool, yeah," Xander nodded. "Nice board, by the way."

Jude chuckled. "Thanks, bro. Do you skate?"

Rory waved with a small smile.

"Hi, I'm Xander. And you are...?" Xander said to the girl who waved at him.

"Rory," she said, smiling. "Huh. Another Xander. I'm assuming you're here for the summer?"

"Yeah, that's me, another Xander," Xander may have scowled briefly. "And yes, yes I am."

"Cool. Where are you from? You sound...I want to say Australian," Rory said, guessing.

"And you'd be right." Xander said, grinning at her. "My parents moved to the States when I was f- thirteen. Two years ago."

Z, slightly dazed from meeting all these new people, came by carting her duffel bag and decided to be nice and stop. "Hi there."

"Hi, the name's Xander." Xander said, sticking out a hand.

Z took his hand. "Hi. I'm Z. Nice to meet you, Xander."

"Hi, Z." Xander looked around. "This is going to be... an interesting summer, I think."

"That," Z said in a heartfelt manner, "is for darn sure." She hefted her bag with one hand and said, "I'm gonna get this upstairs before I get sidetracked any more, but it was nice meeting you, Xander. See you around?"

Joxer walks up, smiling. "Hi, I'm Joxer. Joxer the Mighty."

"Hi, Xander Bly ~~, strong as a tree~~." Xander said, waving at himself.

"You new here?" Joxer asked. "I'm trying to get to know everyone."

"Yeah, I'm new, and... also trying to get to know everyone."

"So, yeah, looks like we've got a lot in common, I guess." Joxer frowns a little. "You, uh, got any hobbies?"

Xander briefly wondered if "saving the world" should be categorised under hobby or occupation.

"Skateboarding." He said, finally.
