Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"Nineteen-ninety-fo-seven," Dean replied, wondering if he'd ever manage to get the year right without stuttering. "And bizarre doesn't even begin to cover it. That guy from 1944? Told me they were invaded by dancing bunnies at Easter."

"Dancing bunnies." He sighed, lifting a hand to run through his hair in frustration. "Okay, so. You're not my clone. There's the vague possibility of me being your clone, maybe." He didn't mention that if he was, they'd obviously improved upon the original material. 494's mouth quirked in a wry sort of smirk. "This could be an interesting summer."

"Yeah interesting is one word for it. Completely whacked might also work" Dean looked over his double, still finding the whole experience on a totally different scale of weird. "So do you have an actual name or just the number?"

"Number is my designation, no name." He shrugged, taking the opportunity of being looked over to do so in return. "They kind of discouraged familiarity."

Dean didn't ask who "they" were; he had the feeling he wouldn't get an answer, and even if he did, he didn't think he'd understand it.

"Well that sucks out loud. So what do I call you then for short? X? I met this girl named Z earlier... could have a whole alphabet theme going here."

"Nah, 'X5' is what I am, so 494 works better," he said. "Even if it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. And which one were you, anyway - Dean or Sam?"

"I'm Dean, he's," he jerked his head towards his brother, "Sam. Winchester." He added, "We're brothers," not sure if it was needed, but hey the guy didn't have a name so he might not be able to make the same last name means related connection.

"So I can expect to hear 'Dean' a lot this summer," he noted dryly. "And Z mentioned you and Sam - she thought I was Sam, actually, given the resemblance."

"Really?" Dean shot his brother a look and chuckled. "Guess it's a logical mistake to make. She just expected my brother to be as good looking as I am."

494 spread his hands, grinning again. "Can't exactly fault her for that," he said.

"Hey!" Sam said, rolling his eyes. "You know, having one of you around is bad enough. I don't know what I did to deserve two equally arrogant versions."

"Girls like self-confidence," 494 agreed, grinning at Sam as well.

"Oh yeah? Well I have a female roommate, so I don't need self confidence."

In retrospect, that sounded so much better in his head.

"Dawn and I have just discovered that we have a lot in common, being the amazing, taller younger siblings of two crazy older siblings," Sam explained.

"Aw, it's not that bad. It's just..." He gestured at Sammy, "...he's my little brother. Being a pain in my ass is part of his job description."

494 glanced at the taller Winchester, somewhat dubious. "Maybe it's the familial bonds I'm lacking, but I don't see an upside."
