Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

Molly turned to the new person and smiled. "Hi. Thanks. Nope. Been here since January. Welcome to Fandom High. I'm Molly."

"Jamie," he said returning the smile. "And thanks. So tell me Molly, is it just me or is this place a little...

Jamie looks over at the girl checking in her sword and asking the principal to keep her bow.

"Um... different?"

Molly grinned widely. "Just a little," she said. "There are a lot of students from different times and different planets and even different realities."

Okay he didn't think it was *that* different.

"You're pulling my leg, right?"

Molly smiled and shook her head. "Nope."

Jamie's now pretty sure the idea of coming here was from Guido.

"So what else can I expect to run into here?"

"In what sense?" Molly asked. "Students? Most are pretty normal people. Even the ones form other places. There are a few magic users, we had a vampire - but he just graduated - and there are a couple of us mutants running around.

"As for other stuff?" Molly looked up as she thought and counted off on her fingers. "Zombies, snow monsters, evil vampires, body switching, gender switching, age regression, gremlins, I heard about a squid in the pool, but I never saw that one and wee tiny bunnies." She looked back at Jamie. "I'm sure I've left a few things out," she said with a grin.

Wee tiny bunnies? Definitely Guido.

"Zombies? Vampires and... mutants?" Jamie said looking around. "We have mutants here?"

Molly nodded, but eyed him warily. "Yeah, I'm one of them. You got a problem with mutants?"

"No!" Jamie said abruptly and then looked around cautiously. "I mean... you can just come out and say that to people?"

Molly relaxed and grinned. "Oh, yeah. Sure. No one here has a problem with it. Are you-" Out of consideration for his wariness she lowered her voice. "Are you a mutant too?"

"Um... yeah," he said nervously. "You're sure it's okay? Where I'm from there can be a little... prejudice involved in being one."

"Oh. Where I'm from too," Molly said and then made a dismissive wave. "Not here though. There are so many people with weird stuff about them that a little thing like being a mutant doesn't bother anyone."

Jamie looks a little relieved at the statement, but maybe just a bit too unsure still. "That's... refreshing. So where exactly are you from? Because I've already met another girl but she's from another earth entirely."

Molly shrugged. "I'm from L.A., but after talking to several people here, I know it isn't the same L.A. that they know. Like, they don't have mutants here at all. If you leave Fandom Island by a normal way, I mean. So, I'm sort of from a different Earth too. But if you have mutants too, it might be the same as yours."

"Avengers? Fantastic Four?" Jamie asked hopefully. "Does that ring a bell with you?"

Molly nodded happily. "Yup! There's another student from there too, but he's gone for the summer. So, what are your mutant powers? If you don't mind my asking. I have super strength."

Jamie was suddenly feeling a little less lost in this place.

"Duplication," he replied. "If I get hit with enough force or if I hit something I can create multiple duplicates of myself. Are you familiar with Xavier's at all? Who's the other person?"

"Duplication. Cool," Molly said then made a face. "Yeah, I know Xavier's. They wanted me to go there, but I wouldn't. I wanted to stay with my friends in L.A.

"The other mutant here is Jake, he's a shape shifter."

"Yeah... Definitely not my style," Jamie agreed. "I was never much for the whole 'wear-tights -and-save-the-world' thing. I used to hang out with my friends over at my... 'Dad's' detective agency over in mutant town.

Molly grinned. "Me and my friends just fought crime. No saving the world though." Except for that one time.

"And you can just where blue jeans to do it," Jamie said with a grin.

He then paused for a second.

"The wee tiny bunnies are just a joke right?"

Molly laughed. "No, they were really here," she said with a smile. "They liked to hug and dance."

"Weird," Jamie says shaking his head.

And yes a guy who has just heard about Zombies, Snow monsters and gender swapping seems mostly freaked out about small bunnies.

Molly patted him lightly on the shoulder. "You'll get used to it," she said with a grin.
