Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

[OOC: All right folks, have at it!]

Peter avoided the food tables having learned from years of state banquets that heeding the call of nature in the middle of a party was generally considered rude.

He scanned the lawn, looking for anyone who might look like a boy named Ainsley. Or really, anyone who looked less lost than himself.

"You look lost, which means you must be new," said Janet. She held out her hand. "Janet Fraiser."

"Peter Pevensie" he said as he shook Janet's hand and bowed (yes, it was an extrordinarily odd feat). "So very nice to meet you, milady. And yes, I am new. Tell me, does the lost in the woods look fade after a bit?"

Milady? Maybe Peter was from a different time period? Or an alternate universe where people called strangers 'milady.' Still, she grinned at the bow and raised one eyebrow at the title. "After a while. But don't worry, right now it just means you get to have questions answered without being teased too much."

OOC: Sorry, but what's Peter wearing? I'll help me decide if Janet thinks he's from the past or not.

Peter noticed the raised eyebrow and blushed slightly. "I'm a bit relieved there's a period in which a lack of knowledge won't be severly mocked. At my last school, the older boys didn't exactly believe in that."

Janet grinned. "Well. You might be mocked, but not too badly." Alternate universe, Janet decided, what with the slightly period-looking clothing and the British accent. "So, welcome to Fandom. Looking forward to summer camp?"

"Thank you so very much for the welcome. Looking forward to summer camp? I suppose I am?" Peter grinned crookedly. "I've not been to summer camp before - first there was The War, then...so, really, I'm not sure what to expect. Is there anything in particular I should know, milady? There's not a White Witch or any hags about, are there?"

Paige would probably fall into the latter category, as she walked out on to the lawn from the school and looked around at all the new people.

Paige being Paige she headed for a guy first, well she is single now.

"Welcome to Fandom High!" she said happily, "I'm Paige,"

Peter smiled and bowed from the waist. "Thank you so much, Lady Paige. I'm Peter Pevensie. Is the slightly terrifed and very lost look that obvious?"

'Lady Paige' she hadn't heard that since the poet had left she smiled at the expression though and laughed slightly at his question.

"Nah don't worry, it's more that fact I haven't seen you before, I'd have remembered!" she replied, "pleased to meet you Peter, so what brings you to our fine school?"

((I'm afraid I must log off briefly, should be back in an hour))

Peter smiled at the laughter and thought quickly Not like I can say a very large lion decided I should leave Narnia...

"My...well, I suppose you'd call him my guardian...sent me. He thought it would be good for me to leave the Court for additional study. And hopefully to make new acquaintances and friends. Have you been here long? Is it a fine school?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that reply would probably be one of the wierder things she'd heard.

"You were at court before being sent here, wow, that must have been pretty exciting, I knew someone who used to work for King Edward, but he left. As for me I've been here since the beginning of the academic year, so about eight months and the school's..." she paused trying to work out how to describe it in a way that wouldn't send Peter running.

"It's different, in a good way, he teacher's are all pretty cool, there's a wide range of subjects and all the students work well together," okay so they only worked together when they were under attack from zombies and snow monsters, but again she didn't want to mention that.

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not really that exciting once you're used to it. Tournaments are fun, and clearing the borders and even making sure the dwarf children get proper schooling, but in general, the actual work of a Royal Court is boring. Pronouncements and judgements and dinner partners one doesn't get to choose." Peter shrugged.

"You're an old hand then." Peter blushed, "I mean, not old in a aged sense, just that you've, er, been here a while." He paused to collect his thoughts. "I do agree that the school's different though. I've not gone to school with girls before, but if you're an example of that, Lady Paige," he bowed slightly, "I am very happy I came.

Jude was boarding along the pavement, was distracted by something shiny, caught the edge of the grass and faceplanted right at Peter's feet. He rolled onto his back and groaned. "Haaaaaaaaaaarsh . . ."

Peter turned to give offer the other boy a hand. "I hope I wasn't in your way; are you injured at all?"

"I'm Peter Pevensie."

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Jude accepted the hand up, straightening his tuque. "Nah, bro, I'm all right. Jude Lizowski, dude."

"Nice to meet you. Are you new as well?"

Peter attempted to suppress his curiosity then gave in.

"And what is that?" he asked, pointed at the skateboard.

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, bro, just got here," Jude replied mellowly before straightening and holding up the skateboard. "This, British-dude, is a skateboard. Not merely a set of wheels on which to ride, but a way of life."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"A way of life?" Peter looked confused. "You mean, it transports you and, err, gives meaning to who you are? How does it do that?"

Looking around, Gwynn saw someone who at least appeared to be from the same time period as she was. She ran a hand through her tangled hair and smoothed down the leather tunic as well as could be done before approaching him.

"Excuse me... are you feeling as out of place as I am?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter turned to the source of the new voice and smiling, he bowed to her.

"As a matter of fact, I definitely do. Do you think it's us who ought to change or shall we start a new fashion?

"I am Peter Pevensie, my lady."

"I think we shall start a new fashion," Gwynn replied, dropping into a bow as well. "I am Gwynn Hood of Locksley, M'lord."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Greetings, Lady Gwynn of Locksley. Where did you travel from to get here?"

Feeling for the sword that wasn't at his side, Peter asked "are you feeling rather undressed without your weapons as well? I saw you giving them up to the Principal earlier. I understand the principle behind the idea, but it's going to be difficult to get used to."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] notafairmaiden.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Gwynn smiled. "I come from Sherwood Forest in Briton."

She nodded at his question.

"In service to the king I have never been without my arms, so yes, it is going to be very difficult to get used to."
