Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

[OOC: All right folks, have at it!]

"Oh, no, mostly dead is a totally different thing," said Janet matter-of-factly. Really, after a while her definition of 'death' had gotten a bit flexible. "Most of the vampires are evil, but you occasionally find a good one."

"He? Isn't that a bit of an assumption to be making?" Janet crossed her arms and gave him a glare. "She is British, yes. Maybe you're related. Dr. Susan Pevensie?"

OOC: Bwah! I sent Su's player a link to our conversation. And that's okay, the women in this school will knock some sense into him about that soon enough.

"I shall definitely take your word on the vampires though in my experience, one's either alive or dead. Not that some can't be alive after being dead. Unless, of course, one's been turned into stone. That's a completely different story."

Peter bowed at Janet's reprimand. "You are entirely correct, Lady Janet. And my apologies. If my sisters were here, they would not have been as kind as you during their correction." He froze mid-bow as her words processed completely. "I do have a sister named Susan, but she's not a doctor. She's still at home."

"I don't think I've ever met anyone who's been petrified in the literal sense of the word," said Janet. "But you'd be amazed at the number of not-quite-dead students we've had at this school."

"Thank you." Janet frowned. "She could be your sister. Time works oddly here. She works out of the school clinic."

"It's not a particularly pretty sight, and I've heard it's a rather painful process as well. Not that you'd expect being turned into stone would be painless." Peter shrugged. "I'm rather glad I've not experienced either petrification or dying. Though from what I've heard so far about this school, there's a distinct possibility other, stranger things will occur." He paused. "Like it being just a few years later than I expected."

Smiling slightly, Peter thought about beautiful dancing, flirting Queen Susan of Narnia whose greatest joy was to beat all the warriors in archery. "I can't particularly picture Su as a doctor. You know her, you say? Does she have long dark hair and a definite opinion about everything?"

Janet winced. "Given the cellular processes that would likely occur during petrification, I'd imagine not," she said. "And it's not just a possibility. Other, stranger things will definitely occur." She glanced at Peter's clothing. "What year did you think it was?"

"She's a psychiatrist, actually, which means she's got a medical degree, but specializes in psychotherapy. Jungian, I think she said?" Janet nodded. "She works in the clinic; I'm one of the aides. And that does sound like an accurage description of her."

Peter noticed the glance at his outfit and realised that he certainly did not fit in with any of clothes others were wearing. Right, find non-Narnian clothes sometime soon, he thought. "Well, to my reckoning, it was 1940 about four years ago. But I've not exactly been...in the country those four years." Mentally flailing, he tried to think of some excuse other than living in a big wardrobe...

"Psychiatrist? Su? They always did call her Susan the Gentle..." Peter said under his breath. "I just don't understand how she could be here." Aslan said once a king or queen, always a king or queen, but if Su is here...and a doctor... He looked very confused. "It can't be her."

"The forties? Peter, I hate to break it to you, but the forties passed us by a while ago. It's 2006." Janet gave him a sympathetic smile. "Though I can tell you weren't in Britain in the forties either. Nice outfit." She glanced down at her jeans and t-shirt. "A lot less boring than mine."

Janet shrugged, but not unsympathetically. "There are a lot of possible explanations," she said. "Time travel, alternate universes, magic, pretty much anything you can think of. But one thing you learn at this school or elsewhere is that nothing's impossible."

"Yes, well," Peter laughed at the complete ludicrousness of the situation. "I've had a bit of a detour since I was in London. My sisters and brother and I were sent away during the Blitz, and I've not been back since. I did hear we won the war though so that's a good thing. I would be awfully sad to be in a place with no jolly old England." He winked. "As for my outfit, I was planning on doing weapons practice for most of the day. This wasn't precisely an expected detour."

Peter paused. "I desperately want to ask what's changed in the world since the War, but I realise the insanity of trying ot explain sixty years in a few minutes. I'll have to find an encyclopedia or something and read up."

"Nothing's impossible, hmm? I'm beginning to learn that, I suppose. Along with the problem with using the word 'always.'" He grinned. "So, would it be possible for you to introduce me to your Dr. Susan Pevensie at some point?"

Maybe Janet would ask Dr. Pevensie about the almost medieval clothing that Peter was wearing. Because she knew full well that sword practice wasn't exactly a part of wartime London. Or maybe she'd ask where Peter--and maybe she--had gone.

"A whole lot, really," said Janet. "But you know who won, right? The rest you can find in a history book. Aeropagitica if I'm spelling it right is in town. You can ask the owner."

Janet laughed. "You'll lose the lost in the woods look in no time, Peter, trust me," she said. "And I'd love to. I'll see if I can hunt her down at the clinic later and find out her summer schedule."

OOC: Sorry, Tuesday is dance lesson night and I forgot to pick this tag up last night. We should be able to wrap up in a few comments, though, I think. And I'll chat with Su's player today.

"Well, I was told the Brits did - but I have to assume the Yanks came in because there really can only be one miracle at Dunkirk in a war. And honestly, if you want to win a war, you can't have your miracles while you're running away. We'd been doing well in the naval area, but that was partly due to the Lend-Lease program and the fact that Germany's just not a naval power, so I would guess Hitler ended up splitting his attention more and maybe..." Peter coughed and stopped the flood of military analysis that was threatening to completely spill out. "My apologies, Lady Janet. I don't mean to start off by lecturing at you. I shall certainly find the owner of Aeropagitica - good lord that's a name! - and find a book or two to satisfy my curiosity."

"With people like you to ask questions of, I'm sure I will." He smiled bowed slightly. "I would so very much appreciate that."

"I always learned it as the allies winning--the British, the Americans, and the Russians," said Janet. "Mind you, I'm used to talks about military tactics. I have quite a few relatives in the armed forces."

"Also, you seem pretty adaptable." She glanced around. "Anyway, I have some errands I need to run. Meet me up at the clinic, maybe tomorrow?"

"I'm sure you're correct - it's just when I remember the situation, there weren't allies involved persay. I'll have to read up on the history." Peter said.

"Please, don't let me keep you. It was lovely to meet - I shall see you tomorrow then"
