Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"The type of craziness depends on the day. and how active the gremlins are. It'll also depend on exactly how much alcohol people have been drinking," Isabel explained.

"Are Tuesdays especially bad?" Dawn asked. "Or is there another day to be on the lookout for? It's always good to be prepared about this kind of thing, you know."

"Wow, there's drinking and boys? If they'd put that on the brochure, I wouldn't have been allowed to come, but my sister might have moved here permanently."

Isabel had to think for a few minutes. "Tuesday are okay. Weekends are when things get really nuts on a larger scale. Weekdays are fairly mellow."

"There's drinking if you feel like it. I don't and no one gives me a hard time about it." She smiled, "This school has different ideas then most. The co-ed housing is really co-ed. My roommate is, no," she corrected herself with a small frown. "My roommate was a guy."

"Weekdays good, weekends bad," Dawn repeated, then asked, "Where'd your roommate go? Nothing happened, did it?"

"No, he just graduated," she explained with a sad smile. "He'll be staying as a counselor for the camp, but they're making all the counselors move down to the first floor. But it won't be the same."

"But he'll still be around," Dawn said, "and that's the important part, right? Otherwise you have to communicate by e-mail, and it's just not the same."

"That's true, just, I'll miss him being right there," she sighed. "I was freaked at first when I found out that my roommate was a guy. But now? I realize it was one of the best things that could have happened. Xander's a great guy."

"Xander?" Dawn swallowed a sip of soda. "You lived with Xander Harris?"

Isabel nodded, "You know him? Where are you from?" And then considering some of the weird time things that she's heard about, "When are you from?"

"I'm from Sunnydale, and about two years after your Xander, if my math is right."

"Really? So after the big giant snake?" Isabel laughed. "I guess he's going to be surprised to see you."

"A year and a half after the big giant snake," Dawn said after a minute, "and I'll say." She snorted, "He didn't know who I was."

"Long, long story," Dawn replied, rolling her eyes, "Involving stuff stranger than demon snakes."

"Well you're in the right place to tell it. In case you haven't figured it out yet? This place thrives on weird." Isabel smiled, "But not now, we'll have to do it someday when we can get comfy with chocolate and other goodies while we trade weird tales."

"I will," she said, trying to figure out how she was going to remember Isabel's room number when she couldn't remember her own. "I'm in 329. I'm not sure if I told you that already. It's been a confusing day."
