Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Luna wasn't going to pry further. If it was something a body wished to let out into the world, it would find away. "No." She shook her head. "I'm to live in room four-twelve. I've never had a room with a number before."

"Oh most people do." Tim explained. "But, me and my mom aren't so well off as some. We only have one bedroom, so I sleep in the couch in the living room."

"Poor in pocket, rich in love, lucky in life and with the spirits above." Luna sing-song-ily recited. "It's just my father and I at home in summer if we aren't traveling with yaks."

Tim smiled. He liked that. "That kinda sums it up." he said. "It was just me and my mom up until a short while ago. Now we've got a Hobgoblin and a Bannik living with us."

"My mum taught me that." Luna smiled back. Not a wizard but had a less than usual life and bankers living in his home. "It's been Father and I for quite some time. Are Banniks related to Snorkacks?"

"Are Snorkack's Russian?" Tim asked. That was a new one on him. "A bannik is a domestic spirit, master of the bath house. Which in our place means he's in charge of the bathroom. He can be kinda pushy about it sometimes." Damn was he missing the little guy already?

"No, we have reason to believe that they might be Swedish." Small snowy country, big snowy country, both end in 'k'... they could be cousins! Totally cousins! "Does he cry a lot?"

"Hmm, not so much. He does tend to sulk if we don't bathe enough. Or when we send him into the hallway so we can have privacy. I've never heard of Snorkacks, what do they look like?"

"We have a ghost that haunts the girl's loo on the second floor at Hogwarts. She's a rather sad individual. No one's given the same account of a Snorkack yet, but Father and I hope to catch a picture of one later this summer if ever when we go to Sweden."

"Well I haven't had any experience with ghosts." Tim admitted. "But I wouldn't think a ghost would be very happy. Isn't that what causes ghosts? He took a sip of his drink. "The Snorkack sounds like an elusive animal."

"I'm not entirely certain, though I have had a ghost as a professor." Luna shrugged.

"They are, quite! Some believe that they're related to the large and nearly invisible Demiguise (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary_d.html#demiguise) hence the difficulty in find one and others contend that they're more like the Bicorn (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary_b.html#bicorn), which might also explain why no one has reported seeing one in some time! This summer is an adventure in the making!" The fact that the later was thought to be keen on dinners of human flesh didn't impede Luna's excitement.
