Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

[OOC: All right folks, have at it!]

Elizabeth spotted him checking out the girls and grinned. Maybe Isabel's wish had come true.

"Hi, welcome to Fandom," she said, snagging a cookie for herself on the way past.

"Hi," Greg said, looking up. He grinned. "I'm Greg."

Elizabeth smiled back. "I'm Elizabeth," she said. "You seem a lot less scared than some of the people around here."

"Didn't know there was a reason to be scared," he replied, raising a brow.

"Well, some people can suffer anxiety or nerves when being thrown into an unfamiliar situation or place, especially alone," Elizabeth said, shrugging slightly. "Other reasons to be scared of Fandom? Yeah, I'm sure the island will welcome you in its own special way soon."

Greg rolled his eyes. "You too? Look, hazing's cute, but I'm not scared of random possibilities. I'm a man of fact, Elizabeth."

"And I'm a woman of fact, Greg," Elizabeth said simply, smiling slightly. "I communicate those facts to others. And I'm not hazing you. I don't approve of harrassment, abuse or humiliation."

"Good. Me neither," Greg said, grinning. "People keep saying stuff about gremlins or whatever, and I'm just not that dumb. Nice tries on everyone's part, though."

Elizabeth winced slightly. "There's a reason our school's mascot is a gremlin, y'know?"

"Does that mean that schools with griffins as their mascots are populated by them?" Greg asked, raising one brow.

Elizabeth laughed. "Having never been to a school with a griffin as a mascot, I'm afraid I can't answer that," she said. "But having lived in Fandom for nine months now, it wouldn't surprise me."

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"As far as I can tell, mascots aren't indicative of anything but the weird sense of humor of the founders," Greg replied with authority. "So yeah, gremlin. Big deal."

"Well, you can't say that you were never warned," Elizabeth nodded. "But anyway. Fandom High's not all about the gremlins at least."

"No, it's evidently also about pretty girls," he said, blushing slightly. "OR so I'm discovering."

So smooth, that Greg.

"There are a number of them, yes," Elizabeth said, grinning at the blushing.

"Many more than in LA," he noted. "Or, well, the girls there were nice to look at, but I'm not really into the whole over-tanned look."

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're from LA? That's pretty cool," Elizabeth said. She grinned. "I think it's the East Coast thing we've got going."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg nodded. "San Gabriel, actually, which isn't Los Angeles proper but close enough to fudge for the out-of-state people. And yeah, never been to the East Coast before. It's all kinda new."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I get that," Elizabeth said. "Wouldn't know San Gabriel. I've not really been to California, although I was looking at Berkeley a while back. I'm East Coast born and bred myself."

"I'm looking into Stanford, so if my mom hadn't suddenly gotten all gung-ho about my going to summer camp, I probably wouldn't have left the state until my twenties," Greg said thoughtfully.

"That's a good thing," Elizabeth nodded. "There's a lot more to see to the world than California."
