Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

There was something to be said for free food.

Free food beat instant noodles and Jessie's cooking any day of the week.

So, needless to say, it didn't take James long at all to find his way to the food tables once he had picked up his room assignment.

Sampling food himself, gingerly of course, as he's not sure what he likes yet, he sees a boy with blue hair eating pretty confidantly nearby. His mouth is full so he only gives a small wave to be polite and looks back to what he's doing.

Foodfoodfoodfoodfood.

And a small wave back. There wasn't much time to wave. There was food to be eaten!

Seeing as James seems to know his foodstuffs, Ranma approaches and taps him lightly on the shoulder.

"You wouldn't happen to have any suggestions on what to eat would you? I'm Ranma Saotome by the way."

He almost remembers not to bow. Almost. He does anyways and feels like an idiot, putting out his hand to shake afterwards.

"Eat?" James says around a mouthful of food, glancing over his shoulder at Ranma with his cheeks puffed out slightly. "It's all good food, uh, Ranma."

He gets a bit of a sly glint in his eye.

"Allow me to introduce myself."

Pulling a rose from the rolds of his shirt, James poses with it quite overdramatically.

...

And then he fell short.

There was nobody to start the Team Rocket motto...

Oh, how lost he was without Jessie.

"I'm James," he said as he tucked the rose away and turned back to the food table. "Try the sweets. They're not bad."

Feeling a little better after James made a goof of himself too, he grabs for some ice cream and has a small bowlfull.

"Thanks."

"Anytime," James said around a mouthful of cookie.

Stopping mid-sip when she spotted the bright blue hair (ok, so it wasn't THAT unusual, but still... on a guy), Sharon might have gaped a little before recovering and smiling brightly. "Hi!"

James nodded back, letting his bad-guy visage (or lack thereof) melt away as he took a small break from eating to reply to the friendly person, oblivious to the fact that it was his (naturally) blue hair that had caught her eye.

People here were so friendly. It was a wonder he had tried to steal their oddly-shaped Pokemon back at the VillainCon.

He figured that he might as well do his best to be pleasant to them. He was going to be there a while. After all, he had to earn a name for Team Rocket.

"Well hello," he said in his suave-yet-dorky croon of a voice, flashing his winning smile.

"You're new, yes?" Without waiting for an answer, Sharon continued, "Welcome to the school. Do you dye your hair, or is it natural?" It's possible Sharon had had too much sugar. ~~She also wondered how easy it would be to sneakily dye Leoben blue.~~

James blinked at Sharon, rather confused.

"It's natural. You've never seen naturally blue hair before? I thought it was pretty common."

He scratched the side of his head thoughtfully.

"Isn't it?"

"Nope." Grinning, Sharon popped a piece of jalapeno cheese in her mouth. "Well, not where I come from. Here? Who knows."

"Hm... How about that?" James thoughtfully munched on a cracker that he had systematically buried under about three inches of cold cuts. "I wonder what other hair colours aren't natural here? Ruby? Emerald? Sapphire? ... Wait. That's blue."

"Hot pink? Orange?" Sharon suggested, then grinned again, "I'm Sharon, by the way."

James grinned right back. "Pink is a perfectly normal hair colour. And I'm James. Usually I have a long speech that I use when I introduce myself, but my partner isn't here to begin it, so I'll spare you the double trouble."
