Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Hermione finishes the sentence before she looks up. "Oh, thank you," she says. "You're new here, too?"

"My first day," Willow confirmed. She held out a hand. "Willow Rosenberg."

"Hermione Granger," she introduces herself, shaking Willow's hand. "What do you think of it so far?"

"People seem okay," Willow said. "My roommate's nice. My best friend's apparently gay. And I'm still not sure if the gremlins are a big ol' practical joke on the new kids. So... not too different from my old town, except for the roommate, gay, and gremlins. You?"

"Apparently you're not supposed to let them bite you," Willow said.

Hermione frowns. "Did they say what happens if you are bitten?"

"They say you think you're somebody else," Willow said. "But for all I know they're making that up."

"Hm," she says, considering this. "I wonder if there's anything about them in the library."

Willow's interest perked up. "There's a library?"

"It's a school," says Hermione simply. If there's not one, she's transferring.

"But is it a good library or do they only have a handful of books that are all off of some PTA approved reading list with practically nothing on mag... m..agnificient texts of history and learning," Willow said, covering the slip as best she could.

"I don't know yet," she says, frowning a little. "I'll have to stop in soon and see what they have."

"Probably won't be anything like the library at home," Willow said, unable to keep herself from pouting. "Giles was a great librarian. He never even noticed all the times I snuck into Spe... um. The stacks. To study really hard for my finals."

Hermione pauses. "Same here. Maybe they'll send me some books if I petition for it."

"They've got a good library where you're from?" Willow asked. "Which is England, I'm guessing?"

She nods. "I used to go to a school called Hogwarts. It was a wonderful school."

"Why come here then?" Willow asked.

"There was... an incident there," she says. "My parents decided it wasn't the best place for me to be."
