Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

[OOC: All right folks, have at it!]

Dean noticed a guy with a very familiar looking face. It was familiar because it looked just like the one he saw in the mirror.

He walked up to the guy and opened his mouth but couldn't actually think of anything to say.

494 saw him coming and wondered immediately if genetics determined migration, as well as incredible good looks. He frowned a bit as the other guy stopped and stared, open-mouthed, and wasn't that embarrassing? "That is not our best expression, man."

Dean shut his mouth with an audible click of his teeth. "Who are you?" he asked, wondering if maybe the question should be what. "You a shapeshifter or something?"

494 popped a piece of trail mix in his mouth and chewed slowly before he answered. Who was this guy? His clone? "Hey, I've always looked like this," he said, arching an eyebrow. "What's your excuse?"

"Me? I've always looked like this too." Dean paused. "Well, y'know, 'cept younger. You always looked like that?" He peered closer. It was kinda creepy seeing your face on some other dude.

494 frowned, leaning back slightly. "Yeah. This-except-younger, I mean, 'cause I did grow up even if it wasn't much of a childhood-- hey, can you maybe not stare?"

"You're staring too," Dean pointed out. He wondered if it was just the face or if the other guy was an exact lookalike. And then he wondered why the hell he'd wonder that in the first place.

He shook his head. "Dude, this is freaking me out."

Sam was trying not to grin embarrassingly after his conversation with Dawn, and sighed with relief when he managed to find Dean in the crowd. "Hey," he said, coming up to him.

And then he noticed the other Dean.

"The hell?" he said.

Sammy. Having his brother there for backup always made Dean feel better.

"Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction too," Dean told him, glancing at his brother sideways for a second before going back to looking at his double. "Dad didn't mention anything about this place being invested with dopplegangers or anything did he?"

494 was thinking about something. Hadn't Z mentioned...? Well, he'd been a bit distracted, so he forgave himself the couple minutes it'd taken to remember why she'd come up to him in the first place.

He glanced between his clone and the tall gangly kid who'd just stepped up. "I'm gonna hazard a guess here - Dean and Sam?"

"That depends," Sam replied cautiously. "Who are you?"

"X5-494," he said, feigning caution in return. "Not a shapeshifter, so don't even ask."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"X5-494?" Dean repeated. "What kind of name is that? Sounds like a window cleaner."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a designation, part of a serial number," he said, looking vaguely put out. "Man, I really hope you're not my clone, 'cause you're kind of a jerk."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dude, I am not your clone," Dean told him, exasperated. "If anything, you're my clone. I'll prove it. What year is it where you're from?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's 2015," he said, annoyed. "And if you're not my clone, or an X5, then how the hell do you look like me?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was born in 1979, which makes me the original. So that means you look like me." Dean gave a firm "so there" nod, the kind that always ended arguments with Sammy.

"And what is an X5 anyway?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
494's eyes narrowed slightly. "If you were born in 1979, you'd be twenty years older than me." He paused thoughtfully. "But hey, if I'm still gonna look that good when I'm old, I'm not arguing." He was deliberately ignoring the second question, at least for the moment.

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's this school," Dean said, biting off 'dickwad' before it could slip out of his mouth. "There's some kind of temporal displacement or something. I was talking to a guy who was from 1944 earlier. Everyone's from different times."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
494 blinked. "Shit." Then he grimaced, realization setting in. "Is this what they meant by weird? Because this is from heading away from weird and straight into bizarre. So you're from when, exactly?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nineteen-ninety-fo-seven," Dean replied, wondering if he'd ever manage to get the year right without stuttering. "And bizarre doesn't even begin to cover it. That guy from 1944? Told me they were invaded by dancing bunnies at Easter."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dancing bunnies." He sighed, lifting a hand to run through his hair in frustration. "Okay, so. You're not my clone. There's the vague possibility of me being your clone, maybe." He didn't mention that if he was, they'd obviously improved upon the original material. 494's mouth quirked in a wry sort of smirk. "This could be an interesting summer."

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah interesting is one word for it. Completely whacked might also work" Dean looked over his double, still finding the whole experience on a totally different scale of weird. "So do you have an actual name or just the number?"

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] x5-alec.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Number is my designation, no name." He shrugged, taking the opportunity of being looked over to do so in return. "They kind of discouraged familiarity."

Re: Mingle/Meet the Newbies

[identity profile] saltandammo.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean didn't ask who "they" were; he had the feeling he wouldn't get an answer, and even if he did, he didn't think he'd understand it.

"Well that sucks out loud. So what do I call you then for short? X? I met this girl named Z earlier... could have a whole alphabet theme going here."
