Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

Pip is there, lit cigarette in his mouth, looking for new people to bother/greet/scare.

"Dude," Jude greeted as he skated slowly by, pretending to not be impressed by the omgtall.

Pip grinned and noded. "Dude," he said. "New kid?"

"Yeah, bro." Jude stopped, flipping the board up under his arm in a practiced move. "Dude, I'm Jude."

"Nice move," Pip said. "I'm Pip Bernadette."

Jude chuckled. "Merci, Pip. French or just Quebequois?"

"French, but you're the second person today to ask if I was from Canada."

"Awwwesome, bro," Jude said, smiling. "Were they from Canada, too? 'Cause I'm starting to feel a little alone here."

"I don't think so," Pip said. "At least, they didn't sound like it. They asked if I was from Canada, didn't get into the whole Quebec thing. And yeah, I think you're a stranger in a strange land. If it makes you feel better, you are far, far, far from being alone in that aspect."

"Harsh," Jude slumped a little, then brightened. "Yeah, I was kinda thinkin'. I met a girl from Argentina and one from Sweden and this weird guy from Greece. And Nadia-bra told me about the demons and vampires and stuff." He looked completely calm as he said this, too.

"Oh, good. Nadia and Pippi gave you the jump start tour. Personally, I'm a normal human. Just a mercenary. You have anything bizzare and unusual I should know about?"

"Nah, bro, I'm a normal teenage mallrat," Jude replied placidly. "Only no more mall."

[[And now, with the right journal!]]

Pip nodded. "Well, you're a rarity here. Abnormal is the normal. And yeah, no mall. There are other things to do, though."

Jude scratched the back of his head, looking sheepish. "That's why my parents sent me here. I totally blew calc and chem 'cause I spent all my time at the mall with my friends."

Pip grinned. "Well, here if you don't do your work, it's not so much that you'll fail as the teacher will give you horrible screaming nightmares. At least, I think that one guy does."

"Dude, haaaaaarsh," Jude winced.

Pip shrugged. "The teachers range from really cool to harsh. Like all teachers, really. It's just that some can smash down brick walls and whatnot."

"Heh heh, awwwwesome," Jude chuckled. "Can't wait, bro."

Pip grinned. "Welcome to Fandom, my brother. Catch me later, maybe I'll give you a little tour of the town. Show you the cool places."

"Sounds great, Tall Dude," Jude said with a dopey mellow Jude-grin. "Apparently I have to meet some dudes on a corner."

"Oh? Why's that?" Pip asked.

"Dunno," he said with a shrug. "Nadia also said something about some brownies." It was amazing how he could fit almost a dozen extra vowels into her name.

"Ooooh," Pip said. "Yeah, we'll definitely have to stop by there at some point. Jay and Silent Bob, I think she means."

"Must be them, bro." Jude chuckled again. "I'm definitely gonna like it here."
