Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"Circus? That's an appropriate term," Sam said, taking another glance around. "Is it always this chaotic around here?"

"We have the occasional lull, and then it powers up to five or six times this. Opening day's always a trip, though. What class are you? Although for summer, that matters a lot less." She cocked her head. "I'm tempted to ask if you're an alien mutant love-child, but maybe that's too much on first acquaintance."

Dawn made a beeline for Sam, with Molly hopefully following behind her. "Hi, this is Molly, who's got an awesome hat and isn't new and therefore is someone you should know, because if you listen to me for advice you'll be confused for the rest of the week," She smiled at Parker. "I'm Dawn Summers."

"Parker. Just Parker. Hey, Molly. The hats are on again?" Her smile widened. "I'm glad you guys are smart enough to try to find native guides here.

"Hi, Parker," Molly said with a smile. "Yep, hats are back as of yesterday. Then she turned to Sam. "Hi, Sam. Nice to meet you."

Sam suddenly found himself talking to three girls at once. Clearly, he had died and gone to heaven somewhere on the road to Fandom.

"Hi," he replied. "Molly, was it? It's nice to meet you."

Molly nodded and held out her hand. "Yep, Molly. Welcome to Fandom High, Sam."

Sam smiled and shook her hand. Wow, she had a good grip for a girl. "Thanks. It seems like a pretty interesting place so far."

"Oh, it is. It's very cool and this summer should be a lot of fun," she said with a smile.

"So, why did you come to Fandom High, Sam?"

"My dad has to go away on a business trip for the summer," he said, pulling out the story he and Dean had practiced. "He sent me and my brother here so we'd have someplace stable to stay for the summer."

"Oh? Your brother is here too? That's cool. At least you already know someone," she said with a grin.

"I don't know if that makes me as lucky as you'd think," Sam said, laughing. "But it made the trip here less boring. Is it hard to meet people here?"

Molly laughed. "Not really, no. It's just that this place can be kind of weird. So, having someone familiar to start out with sounds kind of nice."
