Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Tim gathered some munchies himself and sat down at his own pile of luggage, sadly, with one hand full of a plate of food, and the other with a cup, he rather ungracefully flopped to the ground. He managed not to spill too much of his food and drink.

"Is the grass down there friendly?" Luna asked the newcomer.

"I sure hope so." Tim said, looking puzzled. "I sure wasn't planning on making it's aquaintence so abruptly."

"I don't believe it will mind," Luna smiled then nodded towards the boy's luggage. "Are you new here as well?"

"Yep." Tim acknowledged. He carefully placed his surviving food and and drink on top of his suitcase, and waved. "I'm Tim Desmond from New York."

"Hello, Tim Desmond. I am Luna Lovegood of Ottery St. Catchpole, England." Luna set down the bun she was eating. "How came you here?"

"First by train," Tim said. "Then by bus. Finally I lugged my bags from the bust station to here."

"Oh, then yeah I guess I am. I do have a wand, but I'm not really sure how to use it yet. The directions are kinda hard to make out."

A muggle with a wand that came with instructions?! Most interesting. Luna cocked her head to the side. "Mine didn't come with instructions."

"So, are you a witch then?" Tim asked. "And what's your wand made of?"

"Yes." Luna answered. "Hazel with a tail hair from a unicorn at the core. Yours?"

"Wow, that sounds..." what could he say that wouldn't sound lame? "Neat." Nope, that wasn't it. "Mine's crystal, well, now it's crystal and, I think steel, cause it kinda got fused with a sword."

Neat was fine by Luna's standards. It was much better than 'far out' or 'unusual' or 'odd'. "A spell gone awry?" she asked and thought that perhaps American wand makers lacked access to good resources.

I can be your web my lady For the second time that day, a memory tried to surface, and again, he refused to let it. Whatever it was, it was too painfull.
"Not, exactly." he said hesitantly. "I think it was deliberate. I wasn't quite lucid for most of it."

"Perhaps there were potions involved." Luna offered. Then she lay down her plate and cup, then turned atop her trunk, so that she might better observe this Tim Desmond of New York. She pulled her knees up under her robe and crossed her arms in front of her legs.

"Have you been inside yet?" She nodded towards the school.

"It's possible." But he wasn't so sure that was it. "No I haven't been inside yet. Have you?"

Luna wasn't going to pry further. If it was something a body wished to let out into the world, it would find away. "No." She shook her head. "I'm to live in room four-twelve. I've never had a room with a number before."

"Oh most people do." Tim explained. "But, me and my mom aren't so well off as some. We only have one bedroom, so I sleep in the couch in the living room."

"Poor in pocket, rich in love, lucky in life and with the spirits above." Luna sing-song-ily recited. "It's just my father and I at home in summer if we aren't traveling with yaks."

Tim smiled. He liked that. "That kinda sums it up." he said. "It was just me and my mom up until a short while ago. Now we've got a Hobgoblin and a Bannik living with us."
