Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"She's a ship, firefly class. And she's the smoothest ride in all the 'verse," Kaylee said proudly. "Where are you from?"

"You've lived on a ship? That sounds rather unusual." Cedric sticks his hands in his pockets and says, "England."

"It was very normal to me. I dunno what they will do without me, though. I kept her running," Kaylee said, still proud. "England? What's it like there. I'm not real familiar with this world."

"I loved England," Cedric says simply. "Wasn't planning on leaving until I was transferred from my school. I miss England. So, I suppose England is rather like my Serenity though I don't keep England running."

"A school for the gifted," Cedric lies. "Gifted in academics mostly though there were those gifted in the arts as well."

"Oh," Kaylee said. "I'm not so much into acedemics. Give me an engine to fix? I'm your girl."

"And I have absolutely no knowledge of anything mechanical," Cedric laughs. "Where did you pick up such a talent?"

"May I ask what type of ship it was?"

"I don't believe I've heard of that type of ship." Cedric scratches his head. "Was it used in military operations?"

Cedric's knowledge of ships is limited so he's reaching when he says, "A ship for travel then? People pay for Serenity to take them from one place to another?"

"You could say that," Kaylee said. She left out the part about how they made a living on Serenity.

Looking around, Cedric asks, "I've been on a ship like that." He's actually never been on a ship at all. His family always used other methods of transportation. "Sounds like an exciting life."

"Really? We'll have to compare stories sometime." She grinned. "It had it's moments."
