Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

Rory did a double-take. He looked a little young, but still....

"Dean?"

No, that wasn't his name. But everyone learns to answer to their brother's name at some point. So he turned around.

"Um, yes?"

"Hey!" Rory said, grinning and walking over to give him a hug. "How come you didn't say anything about coming here when I saw you?"

Ooh, a girl hug. This was nice. Really really nice. And it made Sam have to pause awkwardly as he tried to understand what the girl was saying.

"Um, I uh, I don't know if we...I mean I thought you were talking to...someone else and uh, I..." he stammered wildly. "Did you call me Dean?" he finally said.

"...well, yeah, we never did the whole pet name thing and that would be kind of weird now, don't you think?" Rory said, raising a brow.

"Oh god," Sam said, backing away a little and looking around quickly to see if there was another version of him running around here somewhere. "I'm sorry, I think you've made a mistake. I'm Sam. My brother's name is Dean," he tried to explain.

Rory blushed.

Hard.

"Um. You look exactly like this guy I know - my ex-boyfriend," she explained. "Dean Forrester."

Sadly, though, Rory's voice was so soft that it's quite likely that Sam might have only heard "Dean ...ster."

Sam wasn't sure what confused him more, the fact that this girl had apparently dated Dean, or the fact that she thought they looked alike.

"My brother and I do not look alike," he said, sounding slightly offended. "Did you really date him? Because I don't remember you, and you don't seem like his type. You're sound too sweet."

Really, the earth could open and swallow him at any time now.

Rory smiled. "The Dean I knew didn't have a brother. Just a younger sister...and you really don't look like her. You just look a lot like Dean when we first started going out a few years ago, but with better hair."

"Oh, thanks," Sam said, running his fingers through his hair now that she'd mentioned it. Then a thought hit him and nearly made him shudder. "Wait, so you know another Dean Winchester? Because I thought one version of my brother was bad enough, and I just met a second one over there." He points vaguely in the direction where they met 494. "And if you tell me you know a third, I might have to throw up."

She shook her head. "Dean Forrester," she said more loudly. "Looked identical to you - still does, actually, since I just saw him about two weeks ago. But that's weird. What are the odds of two people having names so similar?"

~~With the WB? You'd be amazed.~~ "That is strange," Sam admitted, mentally adding "Forrester" to his mental list of good fake last names. "Although not as strange as the idea of someone out there looking like me. I'm sorry I confused you."

"Eh." Rory waved a hand. "You could have a worse double. There's a prostitute in town who looks like me, for instance."

"And I assume by the fact that you're here that you're not a prostitute," Sam replied.

Rory raised a brow. "That would be correct."

It was funny how quickly that urge to get eaten by the ground came back sometimes. "That was kind of inappropriate, wasn't it?"
