Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

"So gremlins are real?" Willow asked. Coming from Sunnydale she didn't know how to take this on the scale of "Yeah, the world has weird stuff in it" vs "Willow Rosenberg typically has a 'kick me' sign on her back at all times." "Like, real real?"

"As far as I can tell, you hallucinate that you're someone else. Apparently it can be really embarrassing. You should ask Marty about it, he's been bit a bunch of times."

"But somebody would need to know magic or something silly like that to make that happen," Willow said, trying to laugh it off.

Nadia shook her head. "Not really. You just need a really good disguise." She nodded. "Like a wig and sunglasses."

"Oh," Willow blinked. She laughed again. "Of course. Disguises. I - I was just joshing you. As we girls do."

"Well, I wouldn't discredit magic immediately. It's been known to happen around here."

"Really?" Willow asked, still not sure this wasn't part of hazing the newbies. "Actual magic or girls who are real fond of carrying around spice racks?"

"We made spice racks in shop class, but I mean actual magic. There are some witches and alchemists and people wandering around here, somewhere."

"Really? Do they teach?" Willow shook her head. "I - I mean magic. How weird!"

"Some of them. The journalism teacher kept turning John into a bunch of different animals, if you believe the radio." Nadia tilted her head. "You know, you don't actually have to hide anything here. We get all sorts."

"Hide?" Willow squeaked. "Who's hiding. Nobody's hiding! I'm a perfectly normal sixteen year old girl!"

"Uh-huh." Nadia raised an eyebrow, then shrugged. "That won't last long around here. I thought I was a perfectly ordinary fifteen year old, and then I found out my parents were both super-spies and I might be able to predict the future."
