Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. ~~That's what the mingling section is for!~~

"I - um - what?" Willow blinked.

"Did you try singing show tunes like I suggested? Because that's how Callisto woke her up last time. So did you decide that Fandom High would be a safe place to come to school now that your brother graduated?" Marty said looking around for the camera guy that followed Trina everywhere last time during parents weekend.

Nadia noted the look of confusion on the new girl's face and came over to intervene. "He's not scaring you with talk of gremlins, is he?" She shook her head at Marty, clearly indicating "shaaaaaaaaame".

"Gremlins?" Willow asked. "Gremlins named Trina that sing?"

"I wasn't trying to scare her! This is Logan's sister Trina. We met over Parents Weekend," Marty said introducing her to Nadia. "This is Nadia Santos. She's the resident brat."

Nadia elbowed Marty. "I'm not a brat." She turned back to the girl. "You're Logan's sister?" Then she pondered the gremlin question. "Xander said the gremlins sang, but I don't think they have names."

This was way too much fun.

Willow self-conciously touched her hair ~~oh the meta~~ as though worried she looked like somebody she shouldn't. "Um, I think there's been a mistake. I'm not Trina and I don't know anybody named Logan. I'm Willow Rosenberg, from Sunnydale High?"

"Oh. That seems to happen a lot. Nice to meet you," Nadia smiled. "Like he said, I'm Nadia. He's Marty Blank. Welcome to Fandom."

"Willow Rosenberg," she juggled her highlighters and paperwork so she could offer a hand. "I'm new. Which I guess you know. But know we know each other and - and hi!"

"That we do," Nadia shook her hand. "Hi, Willow Rosenberg."

"Are you new too?" Willow asked. "Only - only I guess not since you're talking about things like you know here and I don't which would mean that you're not large with the new and more with the old and experienced so, uh, hi!"

"I've been here for a semester. Marty was one of the first people to talk to me when I was new, so I thought I'd come to the rescue." Nadia smiled. "Relax. It'll be great. Just watch out for the gremlins. And snow monsters. But we hopefully won't get any of those in the summer."

"So gremlins are real?" Willow asked. Coming from Sunnydale she didn't know how to take this on the scale of "Yeah, the world has weird stuff in it" vs "Willow Rosenberg typically has a 'kick me' sign on her back at all times." "Like, real real?"

"That's what I hear. I've never seen them, but I've seen what happens if you get bit. It's not pretty."

"What happens?"

"As far as I can tell, you hallucinate that you're someone else. Apparently it can be really embarrassing. You should ask Marty about it, he's been bit a bunch of times."

"Another Sunnydale refugee, huh?" Marty said with a chuckle. "So are you a slayer, a vampire or just someone who's survived countless attacks?"

Willow looked surprised. "You know about Sunnydale? And - and no. Not a vampire." She pointed up. "Sunlight." She pointed to herself. "Not dusty. Slayers? How - are you with the Council?"

"No, I'm not with the council. Ex-CIA, actually," Marty said with a small grin. "We actually have... or rather had a couple of students from Sunnydale in the last year. Two of them just graduated yesterday."

Willow tried to hide her look of worry. "Students from Sunnydale? Here?"

"Yeah but one of them is leaving for L.A. by the end of the week, I'm not sure what the other guy has planned. He'll probably want to hang out here this summer with his boyfriend," Marty commented. "There nice guys though. Well, one of them is a nice guy *now* but he was really nasty the first sememster."

Oh no. There was only one person Willow knew of who hung around high schools and matched that description.

Only problem was that technically she wasn't supposed to know about it.

She tried to figure out how to ask questions without giving the game away.

"Really?" she laughed. Not well. "How weird. What - what was his name anyway? Maybe I know him?"

"Angel. No last name. Kind of like 'Cher'. He used to go by 'Angelus' when he was all bad-ass. Now he owns a puppy and obsesses about his hair," Marty said looking to see if either person was around. "The other guy is Xander Harris."

"Angel's here?" Willow squeaked. "And - and Xander?" She didn't know which way to turn. "Where - are they here now? Is Angel - " she was about to reflexively ask "Evil again" but remembered what Marty had just told her. "Um - with Buffy?"

"I take it you know them?" Marty said wincing from the squeak. "Buffy and Angel weren't dating, though his current girlfriend is blonde and a warrior and wears a leather bikini. I guess he doesn't stray from a certain type."
