Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

His eyes widened slightly and he fought back a grin. "Hey, it could happen, right? Familiarity breeds contempt, or something like that." He shrugged. "So what else is weird about this place, besides the lookalikes and the apparent time-displacement?"

"Oh, odd things happen around here for no apparent reason," Molly said casually. "Like, a bunch of inanimate object went on strike during finals week. The weekend before that, most of the entire student body turned into little kids. There was the snow monster attack a while back. Stuff like that." She shrugged.

"Unions, rejuvenation, snow monsters. Got it." He nodded, managing quite nicely not to look as completely weirded out as he felt. "If I ask about aliens or superheros or something, are you gonna tell me I'm crazy?"

She laughed. "There are quiet a few aliens as students and one of the professors is a super hero," she said.

He whistled, shaking his head. "Fandom's not what I expected, but it's definitely different."

Molly smiled brightly. "It is the best school ever," she said.

When she smiled like that, he wondered if maybe she wasn't too young after all. "Yeah?" 494 grinned a bit. "Gotta say, I think I might be looking forward to this summer a little more, then."

"It'll be interesting, that's for sure," Molly said with a return grin.

"Good word for it," he agreed. "So, since you seem in-the-know here, what do you guys do for fun?"

"There are a few places in town that are fun to go, but most of the parties end up happening in the second floor common room."

"Second floor is the place to be," he said, noting that mentally. "Got it. I'm up on the third floor though - they have a problem with inter-floor fraternizing?"

"Not really, no," Molly said. "There are a couple of guys who have a floor superiority problem, but they don't care if people from other floors hanging out there."

He shrugged. "Some guys feel the need to be jerks. But if it's cool, then I'll probably see you there sometime too, right?"

"Oh, definitely," Molly said. "I hang out there more than I do my own floor. But then, there are only four people living on my floor. Well, until today anyway. And the guys on the second floor aren't jerks. They're just being dorks. They're all really nice."
