Welcome Party for the Summer Students and Staff

Despite the slightly overcast sky, the weather is still good for welcoming all of the new arrivals for the Fandom High summer session. The graduation decorations (and gremlin debris) have been cleared from the front lawn, and replaced with tables of information packets, food, and drinks. A series of signs point the students to the information table first, where they can pick up their room assignments from the office drones, and then continue on to the food tables to mingle.

And no, there are no inflatable gremlins around today. It's far too early to start scaring the new folks. That's what the mingling section is for!

Tyler had a weakness for brownies too. "Hey," he said to the blonde kid as he reached for one.

"Hey man." said Draco, with a mouth full of brownie. He looks over the guy. "You one of the newbies?"

Tyler nodded. "Yep. Just got in. You?"

He held out the hand that didn't have the brownie in it. "Tyler Durden, sophomore."

Draco shook his head. "I've been here since September."

Draco shook Tyler's hand. "Draco Malfoy. Yes, I realize it's a silly name." he says "I just finished my sophomore year."

"What brings you here? Parents?" he askes, curious. He was always for getting to know fellow brownie lovers.

"My roommate is called X%-49 something," Tyler said. "At least Draco is a name."

He took a bite of brownie. "I think my dad thought I needed a change," he said. "At least, that's what I heard. I was kind of in a bad place, back home."

"So where in England are you from?"

"I know all about being in a bad place." says Draco "That's the main reason I came here."

He finishes his second brownie. "My family home is in Wiltshire. But I went to school in Scotland." he says "Not that you'd be able to find it. Has all sorts of magical spells over it."

He then realizes that might sound weird to normal muggles. "I'm a wizard. Like, magic and wand stuff. And no, I can't pull a rabbit out of a hat."

Tyler blinked. Okay, this was a genuine surprise. "Get out."

Then, just in case Draco wasn't joking: "What kind of stuff can you do?"

Draco always loved this part. One of his favorite reasons for being in a muggle school. "Oh the usual. Turning tables into pigs, lighting things on fire...killing people."

"Though the last one I don't do too often." he says. Not anymore, he thinks sadly.

"You ever done it?" Tyler asked, a little jealous.

Then, realizing this guy might be useful: "Did you know that a mixture of equal parts orange juice concentrate and gasoline is as good as napalm? That's chemistry, man. My kind of magic."

"Well...I don't like to brag." says Draco, figuring that was the safe answer. He was about to blurt about the people he's killed to a guy he just met. Though it was tempting.

"Really? See, I'd find that so much more satisfying." says Draco "Sometimes just pointing your wand at something and making it explode just makes you feel unfufilled."

"My hand to god," Tyler said, and if Draco was paying attention, he would catch the dull shine of the lip print scar on Tyler's hand as he gestured. "But I think it would be awesome to be able to do it your way. No mess, no getting a group together, way less risk of the police catching on ... just, ka-pow."

He shrugged. "I thought about this stuff a lot back home."

"Yeah it is kind of nice. Though in my world the police are a little more intense than those guys dressed up in those ridiculous blue uniforms."
