Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Xanthippe was still pretty annoyed about the whole surprise roommate thing. So much so that she was texting Simone about it (mostly in emojis) even though she hadn't gotten anything more substantial than a 'lol k' back from said former friend in months.

Why mingle when you could walk around looking at your phone instead?

Peridot really wasn't paying any attention to the ice cream. But then, Peridot really didn't eat or really notice the heat here, either. It balanced out.

Rather than worrying about things like heat or ice cream, she was walking around with her hand extended into her screen, quietly narrating any oddities she saw into her logs.

So far, compared to the norm that she'd experienced since arriving on the island, there wasn't anything too weird. Was it bad that she was hoping that would change?

Dante had had a pretty damn nice night last night - so he didn't exactly show up to the picnic bright and early.

But he did show up to the picnic wearing leather pants, his half-gloves and no shirt, just to keep the tradition going. He snagged some food and slouched in a seat somewhere, legs stretched out on the table.

It was the first picnic without the sight of Garik wandering around, being ridiculous. That should not have been such a depressing thought, and yet here Cassandra was: in her casual clothing, sitting quietly in the corner.

Perhaps she should not have come. Training would have been more useful.

Blue was happy to help herself to some free food and observe the new faces since she'd gone away for the summer. Especially since it delayed having to go up to her room and figure out what she was going to do about that situation.

Maybe she could shove all the stuff Thorin had put in her closet under the bed. Or maybe there was a full armory under her bed. Who knew?

As she wandered around, she set down her plate long enough to take a photo of the castle on her phone and sent it to the boys back in Henrietta. Perhaps predictably, Ronan remembered how to use his phone long enough to text back, did you take this on a potato? He knew perfectly well her phone was a prepaid flip model from Walmart, so she didn't dignify it with a response.

Kira still felt weird walking around at the picnic without keeping an eye out for boys to talk to Kathy about, but she hadn't left after grabbing food, so she figured that was emotionally good. She plopped herself down at a table and picked at her food as she looked at the growing crowd.

Lucille had found a place under an umbrella, despite their appearance. She also had food, and a good view of the people at the picnic. Most of the newcomers would probably not be worth talking to, but perhaps there would be exceptions?

Even though the weather was getting cooler, this was Roscoe's first chance to go shirtless at a picnic knowing that it was a tradition.

So. He had a knee-length black skirt on and a pair of DollaHyde sneakers, plus plenty of gold body glitter to complete the look. Minimalist fashion, yo.

This vampire wasn't particularly bothered by the heat. To be fair, that would've been the case before a millennium in Hell, too.

He was a bit bemused by the whole picnic thing, but curious, too.

So, Peter was here, looking around, checking out all the people he'd never met before.

Jalian couldn't eat the ice cream, but she was here nevertheless, dressed in a white halter top and white denim shorts. Her knife was actually at the small of her back, mostly hidden, since apparently it put off some people? Whatever.

She was enjoying soaking up the sun, her skin chalky white by this point.

Anders roamed the picnic with a his staff haphazardly strapped to his back, melting ice cream bar in one hand, a smudge of chocolate on his chin, and a pleased expression on his face. Even the fact only one slim year stood between him and whatever graduation would bring couldn't bring him down much.

Ahsoka had a plate piled high with food, especially meat. The Force might have been enough while she was meditating, but now she'd stopped her body had been pretty quick to remind her she hadn't eaten since breakfast Thursday.

When she wasn't focused on eating, she was also taking the opportunity to enjoy the scenery this time, since there hadn't been any emotional trauma surprise reunions this time around.

Isabela was in a very good mood this morning, so she'd found a nice patch of sunlight to bask in and people-watch.

Hopefully some of the new kids were pretty.

Margaery had been more than a little curious about the food - not to mention she was fairly ravenous - but had restricted herself to only a small sampling of things as she filled her plate. Even the act of doing so was unfamiliar, since at home she would have been attended to by any number of servants to fetch whatever she might need.

Still, she tried to maintain the smile she'd been wearing since the Portalocity lounge. Everything here was strange, and desperately unfamiliar, and maybe even a little frightening. But it was an adventure, she told herself. And she was a Tyrell, and she would not wilt in the face of the unknown.

She found herself a spot under an umbrella (which she rather liked, honestly - the colors reminded her of a tournament) to daintily eat and watch people from a short distance. She needed to gain some sort of bearings here, and quickly.

It had been years since Faith had actually climbed a tree. It was rare for her to even see trees, these days. Sometimes in the nicer districts she'd see fake ones, potted in little bowls of smooth, clean rocks and not a drop of soil.

But she couldn't stand to socialize on ground level with her head spinning the way it was, so she glanced around until she was pretty sure no one was looking right at her and scampered up the one that looked the easiest to climb - low, heavy branches, not such a big drop if she happened to fall.

She settled on the lowest branch and sat with her back to the trunk and watched. This was better. She could breathe up here.

Tip was basking a little in the sun. Not because she wasn't bothered by the heat and humidity -- this area wasn't too different from where she grew up in Pennsylvania, but summer had never had her favorite weather -- but because it was the real proper Sol sun.

She'd missed that sun.

She had her camera with her, her actual camera, not just her phone camera, to grab pics of her fellow students. Not just the obvious aliens even, this time. J.Lo had been happy to see her school had some life form diversity, but now he wanted to know about everyone she went to school with. Plus -- well. She liked taking pictures.

Rhys, his terrible name tag, and his plate of food precariously balanced on one scrawny knee was watching everyone around him in case this was some super elaborate joke or lead up to Jack actually being alive and wanting to mess with his mind.

You never knew.

"I miss my arm," he whined to himself. Eating with the other hand was weird.

Thorin was there in one of the finer tunics he'd procured in his time here. Because he would never understand the insistence on shirtlessness during these events.

Also, he was looking forward to his roommate's return. Even if it meant he'd need to find new places to store his work.

Ada couldn't go as shirtless as the boys, but far be it for her to break pretty much the only Fandom tradition she enjoyed.

Which is why she was wearing her favorite sshoes that weren't her cowboy boots (be happy, Fandom, she dressed up), a mini-skirt and form-fitting tank-top, and a lot of body glitter on her arms, collarbone, neck, and cleavage. It wasn't shirtlessness, or even her bikini, but Ada was definitely indulging in the spirit of Fandom's welcoming ceremonies.

But she had all the ice cream she could eat, and a new little sibling -- a sister, this time -- so Ada was going to sit on a table and people-watch while eating her ice cream.

After the airport, bus ride and meeting her sib and new roommate, Negasonic retreated to a shady tree where she could zone out a minute and check her Twitter account.

This whole socializing thing was not for her.

The food table he was sharing with other people. That he had to walk to himself. This place was the worst.

Khadgar was still reeling a little from everything, but he wasn't outright staring at anyone, at least. Part of that was because he had a plate of foods that he'd recognized--his bravery for new things was waning at the moment--and partly because there were some people wearing very little clothing and he wasn't sure if looking at them was appropriate. He felt very overdressed with his tunic and cloak, but at least he wouldn't be hungry for much longer.

Eric was maybe a little judgey about pie when it wasn't his, but ice cream could still be eaten with things like cake. And while he did enjoy baking a good cake, it wasn't really his niche the way pies were. So, cake. And ice cream. Were happening, as he people-watched.

Ringo had spent a little bit of time sort of agonizing over her wardrobe for today, but ultimately she'd decided to kind of honor Kathy's and Raven's memories with a bikini top and a pair of short shorts. Sure, she had a light shirt to pull over tied around her waist.

And once she was actually at the picnic, the excitement of seeing people (and the chance to meet some newbies) was enough to push the sadder thoughts to the back of her mind.

Also, there was ice cream! Which she clearly had to be eaten before it melted, so she was just being super helpful by loading up on it.
