Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

So, the heat meant that many of the tables and chairs had been set up in the shade, and someone had found outdoor table umbrellas in blue and gold, god help us all. But hey, a little heat never hurt anyone who wasn't a vampire, right?

Ahem. The picnic was open for warm, sunny business.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Tip shrugged. "I like taking pictures. It's cool if you don't want me to. I'm Gratuity, by the way."

All right then. After meeting Blue and now Gratuity Negasonic was feeling less apprehensive about saying her name.

"Negasonic Teenage Warhead," she replied. " you can take my picture."

But she wasn't going to smile.

"Thanks." Smiling would ruin the effect, anyway. She stepped back, framed up the shot, and took the picture. She turned the camera around to show Negasonic. "That's a cool name. Very evocative." But what was she going to call herself when she wasn't a teenager anymore?

She's sixteen. That problem is eons away from being dealt with.

"It's from a song. Seemed to fit me pretty well."

"I don't think I've heard that one," Tip admitted. She had, after all, been born seven years after it was released. She was a little desperate to ask what 'negasonic' meant, but as a black girl named 'Gratuity', she knew how irritating a question like that could be. "So what brings you to Fandom?"

"The bus," she said lightly before shrugging off her own joke. "My other school transferred me here. Thought I would do better in another environment."

"Oh." Tip blinked. "Oof. I mean, that's kind of the same reason why I came here, but it was my own idea at least."

Negasonic shrugged. "I could care less. That's just their opinion," she replied.

"Yeah, but their opinion got you banished to a weird island that flies through space."

"Truthfully this school doesn't seem that different from this one," Negasonic said as she shrugged again. "Everyone is a bit different and the school gets attacked once and a couple of years. The dimensional nexus is different."

Tip's world didn't have mutants, no. Or, well, not of the sort that would result in being threateningly evil because of said mutation. They had, like, heterochromia and stuff like that.

Tip shrugged. "In my world Earth was conquered for a year by six legged aliens," she said. "It's . . . kind of hard to tell what's stupid-movie material anymore."
